EURO Function (Calligra Sheets)
Look up fixed legacy-currency factors with EURO in Calligra Sheets. See supported codes, the LUX alias, case handling and unsupported-code errors.
Verification status: 30 selected formulas were executed through the Calligra Sheets 25.04.2 calculation engine library in the C locale. Exact typed outputs and source-derived checks are documented; 26.08.2 was source-checked only. No GUI-cell or import claim. How formula examples are checked
Quick answer: =EURO("EUR") returns 1 in the tested engine.
Availability and version history
- Introduced: First release not established; the name is present in Calligra 2.4.0 source.
- Supported in: Calligra Sheets 26.08.2, with the limitations described here; no retirement established.
- Scope: Desktop Sheets with the Financial module. Formulas use English names and semicolon separators.
- Checked: October 14, 2026: selected 25.04.2 engine-library formulas and independent reconstructions; 26.08.2 source only. The test locale was C. No GUI-cell, import or other-locale execution is claimed.
What EURO returns
EURO returns the stored number of units of a supported currency corresponding to one euro. It is a fixed lookup table, not a live exchange-rate service. For example, the DEM factor is 1.95583: one euro corresponds to that many German marks in this table. Official function reference.
Syntax and arguments
=EURO(currency_code)
currency_code is the single required text code. The helper uppercases the code, so "dem" is accepted. It does not trim leading or trailing spaces. Only the codes in the stored table below are accepted by the inspected versions. Registration and implementation.
Reproducible engine examples
Quotation marks identify text results; error tokens without quotes are actual errors. Numeric results are rounded here to twelve decimal places. The reconstruction column applies independent decimal arithmetic or the inspected character/parser rules, rather than claiming another application test.

Practical worksheet
For an archived amount of 195.583 DEM, divide by the DEM factor to obtain 100 EUR: =195.583/EURO("DEM"). To express 100 EUR as DEM, multiply: =100*EURO("DEM"), giving 195.583. Choosing the correct direction is essential because the lookup is units-per-euro, not euros-per-unit. These are applications of the fixed factor, not current trading quotations.
Advanced interpretation and checks
The stored factors are constants; repeated lookups do not refresh them from the Internet. The two Luxembourg spellings deserve special attention. LUF is the code in the current table; LUX is explicitly retained by the source as an old incorrect code for compatibility. Both return 40.3399. The executed difference below is zero, but that does not make LUX a general currency-code standard.
A legacy-to-legacy amount can be converted by dividing by its source factor and multiplying by its target factor. For 100 DEM to FRF, 100*6.55957/1.95583 is approximately 335.385488513828. Any required monetary rounding policy should be specified separately from this lookup.
=EURO("LUX")-EURO("LUF")
The executed result was 0.
Boundaries and troubleshooting
All 21 accepted code spellings were exercised in this engine fixture. EUR returns 1. Codes USD, HRK and BGN were rejected with #NUM! in the tested 25.04.2 engine and are absent from the inspected 26.08.2 helper. This is a statement about the shipped table, not about which countries use the euro or what another release might add.
A space-padded code such as " DEM " also fails. Check codes after import and distinguish a lookup failure from a zero rate. Wrong argument counts produced #VALUE!. The historical name’s presence does not prove that every factor now in the table existed in that historical release.

Official evidence and precision scope
The financial module is byte-identical in the inspected 25.04.2 and 26.08.2 sources. This comparison does not establish later-version execution or legal monetary-rounding requirements.
