GAMMADIST Function (Calligra Sheets)
Evaluate Calligra gamma cumulative probabilities and densities, with shape/scale examples, endpoint behavior and retained approximation differences.
Verification status: 19 selected formulas were executed through the Calligra Sheets 25.04.2 calculation engine library. Numerical discrepancies and nonfinite results are retained where present. Version 26.08.2 was source-checked only; no GUI-cell or import claim. How formula examples are checked
Quick answer: =GAMMADIST(1;1;1;1) gives approximately 0.63212055879 in the tested Calligra calculation engine.
Availability and version history
- Introduced: First release not established; the name is present in Calligra 2.4.0 source.
- Supported in: Calligra Sheets 26.08.2, with no retirement established.
- Scope: Desktop Sheets with the Statistical module. Examples use English semicolon-separated formulas.
- Checked: October 14, 2026. Selected formulas ran through the official 25.04.2 engine library. Source and independent mathematics were checked. This is engine evidence, with no GUI-cell or import verification; 26.08.2 was source-checked only.
What GAMMADIST returns
GAMMADIST uses shape alpha and scale beta. Its density for x>0 is x^(alpha−1)exp(−x/beta)/(beta^alpha Gamma(alpha)); the cumulative result integrates that density from zero to x. Beta is a scale, not a rate. Function help.
Syntax and arguments
=GAMMADIST(x;shape;scale;cumulative)
All four arguments are required. The wrapper requires x≥0, positive shape and positive scale. It converts cumulative to an integer: zero selects density and nonzero selects cumulative. A value such as 0.9 is converted to zero, as shown in the diagnostics, so use an explicit Boolean. Registration and implementation.
Reproducible engine examples
The engine and mathematical columns are separate. Results are rounded to twelve decimal places, or thirteen significant digits in scientific notation for very small or large values. This is a display choice, not an accuracy guarantee. NaN and infinity are nonfinite outputs; an engine error flag is checked separately from those values.

Practical worksheet
Shape 1 gives an exponential distribution with mean beta. For shape=1 and scale=1 at x=1, the cumulative probability is 1−exp(−1), about 0.632120558829, while the density is exp(−1), about 0.367879441171. The engine’s separate columns retain small approximation differences.
For a positive gamma-distributed quantity with shape 2 and scale 2, the mean is 4 and variance is 8. The reference rows at x=3 show both probability below that threshold and density height; these two outputs answer different questions.
Advanced interpretation and checks
The shape-1 identity provides an elementary independent check. The displayed composition adds exp(−1) to the native cumulative call and returns about 0.999999999961 rather than exactly 1. The residual is retained, not rounded into a claim of exactness.
Scaling x and beta by the same positive factor leaves the CDF unchanged. Density scales inversely with that factor. Keeping those transformations separate prevents treating a density as a unitless probability or confusing scale beta with a rate 1/beta.
The executed advanced check was:
=GAMMADIST(1;1;1;1)+EXP(-1)
Its engine result was 0.999999999961.
Boundaries and troubleshooting
At x=0, a shape below 1 has an infinite limiting density, shape=1 has density 1/beta, and shape>1 has zero density. The engine returns positive infinity without an error flag for the first case; the shape=1 result shows a small gamma-approximation residual. Negative x and nonpositive parameters produce errors. Large-parameter and extreme-tail accuracy is not established by these ordinary checks.
