LEGACYFDIST Function (Calligra Sheets)
Use Calligra LEGACYFDIST for right-tail F probabilities. Compare it with left-tail FDIST, with engine examples, fractional degrees and boundary rules.
Verification status: 17 selected formulas were executed through the Calligra Sheets 25.04.2 calculation engine library. Numerical discrepancies and nonfinite results are retained where present. Version 26.08.2 was source-checked only; no GUI-cell or import claim. How formula examples are checked
Tail convention: LEGACYFDIST returns the right tail. Calligra FDIST defaults to the left tail. The “LEGACY” name remains registered in the inspected current release; it does not establish retirement.
Quick answer: =LEGACYFDIST(1;2;2) gives approximately 0.5 in the tested Calligra calculation engine.
Availability and version history
- Introduced: First release not established; the name is present in Calligra 2.4.0 source.
- Supported in: Calligra Sheets 26.08.2, with no retirement established.
- Scope: Desktop Sheets with the Statistical module. Examples use English semicolon-separated formulas.
- Checked: October 14, 2026. Selected formulas ran through the official 25.04.2 engine library. Source and independent mathematics were checked. This is engine evidence, with no GUI-cell or import verification; 26.08.2 was source-checked only.
What LEGACYFDIST returns
LEGACYFDIST(x,v₁,v₂) gives the modeled probability P(F≥x) for an F variable with numerator degrees of freedom v₁ and denominator degrees of freedom v₂. For a continuous distribution, using > instead of ≥ does not change this probability. Function help.
Syntax and arguments
=LEGACYFDIST(x;numeratorDF;denominatorDF)
All three arguments are required. The implementation requires x≥0 and 1≤each degree of freedom<10000000000. It does not floor the degrees of freedom; the fractional example is intentional. Registration and implementation.
Reproducible engine examples
The engine and mathematical columns are separate. Results are rounded to twelve decimal places, or thirteen significant digits in scientific notation for very small or large values. This is a display choice, not an accuracy guarantee. NaN and infinity are nonfinite outputs; an engine error flag is checked separately from those values.

Practical worksheet
For a pre-specified positive variance ratio F=2 with degrees of freedom 5 and 10, the mathematical upper-tail probability is approximately 0.164194950900. Use the tail and variance-ratio orientation required by the statistical model; changing which variance is in the numerator also changes the degrees of freedom assigned to each position.
A right-tail probability is not automatically a two-sided variance-test p-value. A two-sided procedure requires its own defined treatment of both tails rather than blindly doubling any value.
Advanced interpretation and checks
For v₁=v₂=2, the upper-tail expression simplifies to 1/(1+x). This gives 0.5 at x=1 and 0.25 at x=3, providing exact independent checks.
The executed complement below adds LEGACYFDIST to FDIST with the same arguments and obtains one. Their shared beta approximation means complementarity alone does not prove high-precision agreement with the mathematical F distribution. The independent column preserves that distinction. Reciprocal F transformations also exchange numerator and denominator degrees of freedom; those degrees should not be left in their original order.
The executed advanced check was:
=LEGACYFDIST(1;5;10)+FDIST(1;5;10)
Its engine result was 1.
Boundaries and troubleshooting
A negative cutoff or an invalid degree of freedom produces #VALUE!. At x=0 the right tail is one. In the selected call, nonnumeric text in x becomes zero and also returns one, so validate imported data rather than interpreting every returned one as a meaningful probability. Boundary and rounding observations belong to the named engine build.

The statistical module and value-calculation helpers are byte-identical between the inspected 25.04.2 and 26.08.2 sources. That comparison supports the source discussion but does not establish later-version native output, every locale or arbitrary extreme-parameter accuracy.
