SUMIF in Calligra Sheets: Total values only when matching rows pass a check
Learn the SUMIF function in Calligra Sheets with sample cells, a reproducible formula, expected results, troubleshooting and the official reference.
Verification status: Official documentation referenced; example outcomes independently reasoned or arithmetically checked where stated. Not executed in Calligra Sheets. How formula examples are checked
Quick answer: Total values only when matching rows pass a check. You record quantities and inspection costs. You want to sum costs for quantities greater than six units.
The syntax below follows Calligra Sheets documentation. Recreate the small dataset to understand the output before applying the formula to your own sheet.
When to use SUMIF
You record quantities and inspection costs. You want to sum costs for quantities greater than six units. The calculation can then be repeated across additional rows while retaining the source values for review.
Syntax and argument order
=SUMIF(checkrange;criteria;sumrange)
The spelling and argument order come from the official Calligra Sheets function reference. Calligra’s official function handbook displays semicolons between arguments. Verify separators against the locale in your installed Calligra version.
Reproduce the example
Create a small worksheet with the following cells. Treat the labels as context; the formula references the specified ranges.
| Row | A: Units | B: Inspection cost |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | 3 | 9 |
| 3 | 7 | 14 |
| 4 | 7 | 20 |
| 5 | 12 | 5 |
| 6 | 4 | 6 |
Place the following formula in an empty cell outside the sample range:
=SUMIF(A2:A6;">6";B2:B6)
Expected result: 39.
Why it works: Rows 3, 4 and 5 qualify, and their costs sum to 14 + 20 + 5 = 39.
If your result differs, compare the sample values, quotation marks, argument separators, and cell references against the formula shown.
A second example
=SUMIF(A2:A6;"=7";B2:B6)
Expected result: 34. Use the second result as a separate check with changed inputs.
Troubleshooting and practical cautions
The order is check range, criterion, sum range. A function named SUMIFS in another spreadsheet may use a different argument order.
Check that the check range and sum range align row-by-row; otherwise the total may look reasonable while counting the wrong records.
Compatibility and version notes
Do not assume the function name or argument order matches another spreadsheet. For example, Calligra REGEXP extracts text and REGEXPRE replaces it; PlanMaker and LibreOffice may use different names or behavior.
Verification status: KDE’s published Sheets handbook includes older material and may not describe every interface detail of the current build. This is a documentation-checked formula guide, not a native-application test. No application screenshot is presented as genuine here. Independently calculated expectations are not native-application execution in Calligra Sheets.
