Calligra Sheets Versions and Free Availability
Quick answer: Start with your Linux distribution’s software manager or the official Calligra download guidance. Check the exact installed version before following screenshots or instructions from older releases. Current official Windows availability is not established: the project’s download page describes the Windows port as work in progress.
Checked October 20, 2026. This is a documentation-based availability reference. No new native execution or screenshot capture was performed for it.
Current listing and older version numbers
The KDE application listing for Sheets lists 26.08.2, dated October 8, 2026, above 26.08.1 and 26.08.0. These are observed upstream release entries; they do not prove which build your distribution offers.
You may also encounter instructions labeled 4.0 or 3.x. KDE’s listing records a significant change at 4.0.0: migration to Qt6/KF6, removal of the Kross-based scripting system, and relocation of the cell editor from a side panel to the top. It records Flatpak support at 4.0.1. An old screenshot’s layout or scripting instructions may therefore be inappropriate for a newer installation.
The 2024 Calligra 4.0 announcement describes an important historical release, not the newest release merely because it remains prominent in the project’s news. It also distinguishes the suite’s components from Kexi and Plan, which have separate release schedules.
Free installation routes and platform boundaries
The official download page recommends Linux distribution stores and package tools. It also links a Calligra Flatpak on Flathub and separates that from experimental nightly builds in KDE’s repository. For ordinary work, do not choose an experimental nightly simply because its date is newer.
The KDE application listing identifies Sheets as GPL-2.0-or-later and offers Linux installation through AppStream-compatible stores or the distribution package manager. Choose a route appropriate to your system rather than mixing instructions for unrelated package types.
The project says it is working on Windows support. This page does not establish a current official macOS installer either. Neither statement means that every third-party build is impossible; it means those builds are not verified by this reference. Do not present Linux documentation or screenshots as proof of Windows or macOS feature parity.
Make a useful version record
Before troubleshooting, write down the application version, Linux distribution and release, installation source, and workbook file type. Compare those details with the guide you are using. If a historical scripting feature is absent, reinstalling the same modern package will not necessarily restore a feature removed in the Qt6 migration.
Keep an untouched copy of important workbooks before updating. For a file shared with other spreadsheet programs, test a copy in each actual destination instead of assuming that a newer Sheets package guarantees identical round-tripping.
A basic post-update check
This is a proposed manual check with independently calculated expectations, not a native test result:
- In a blank spreadsheet, enter
12in A1 and18in A2. - Enter
=SUM(A1:A2)in A3. The expected answer is 30. - Change A2 to
20; expect A3 to show 32. - Save a disposable native-format workbook, close and reopen it, then inspect both input values and the A3 formula.
If the formula remains text, investigate its entry and cell formatting. If the reopened result differs, preserve the test copy and note the exact package version and file format. Passing this check does not validate chart layout, imported Excel files or older automation workflows.
