EUROCONVERT in Collabora Office: Convert Legacy Euro Currencies and Control Rounding

Financial Intermediate Collabora Office Calc

Use Collabora EUROCONVERT for fixed legacy euro rates, reproduce ATS and DEM examples, and separate final rounding from triangulation precision.

Verification status: See the evidence and test scope described in this guide. How formula examples are checked

Quick answer: =EUROCONVERT(100;"ATS";"EUR") converts 100 Austrian schillings into euros. Using the fixed conversion rate and the documented default rounding, the expected result is 7.27. EUROCONVERT is for fixed legacy euro conversions, not a live currency quote.

Syntax and arguments

=EUROCONVERT(Value; "From_currency"; "To_currency"
             [; full_precision [; triangulation_precision]])
Argument Meaning
Value Amount to convert
From_currency Official text abbreviation of the source currency
To_currency Official text abbreviation of the destination currency
full_precision Optional; omitted or FALSE rounds the final result to the destination currency’s decimal places; TRUE leaves the final result unrounded
triangulation_precision Optional; when supplied and at least 3, rounds the intermediate euro result to the specified precision; omitted means no intermediate rounding

The first three arguments are required. Use quoted codes in a formula, or cells containing those codes as plain text. The help also says triangulation_precision applies when the destination itself is EUR, treating that stage as an EUR-to-EUR conversion.

Setting full_precision to TRUE does not cancel intermediate rounding that you explicitly requested through triangulation_precision. The two controls act at different stages.

Reproduce the two documented conversion directions

The Collabora section gives ATS-to-EUR and EUR-to-DEM examples. To independently check their arithmetic, the fixed rates are 1 EUR = 13.7603 ATS and 1 EUR = 1.95583 DEM, as listed by Eurostat, checked October 17, 2026.

Formula Expected numeric result
=EUROCONVERT(100;"ATS";"EUR") 7.27
=EUROCONVERT(100;"ATS";"EUR";TRUE()) approximately 7.267283416786
=EUROCONVERT(100;"EUR";"DEM") 195.58
=EUROCONVERT(100;"EUR";"DEM";TRUE()) 195.583

The independent checks are 100 ÷ 13.7603 and 100 × 1.95583. Numeric cell formatting may hide digits even when full_precision is TRUE; increase displayed decimal places before concluding that the function rounded the stored result.

Example: keep the currency codes alongside the amount

Enter A2=100, B2 as the text ATS, and C2 as the text EUR. In D2 enter:

=EUROCONVERT(A2;B2;C2)

The expected D2 value is 7.27. Keeping B2 and C2 visible prevents an unlabeled monetary result from being mistaken for the original currency. Preserve the original amount and code when reconciling an old ledger.

Advanced example: compare triangulation settings

For an ATS-to-DEM conversion, the documented route passes through euros. With final rounding disabled:

=EUROCONVERT(100;"ATS";"DEM";TRUE())
=EUROCONVERT(100;"ATS";"DEM";TRUE();3)

The first independently calculated expectation is approximately 14.213570925053. For the second call, the help specifies intermediate rounding to the supplied precision but does not explicitly define its rounding algorithm in this section. An illustrative three-decimal-place model gives 14.21301661: round the intermediate euro amount 7.267283416786 to 7.267, then multiply by 1.95583. That model is independently calculated; the exact native result of the second call remains unverified.

Both independent model amounts round to 14.21 DEM at two decimal places. That matching display would not mean the intermediate calculations were identical. Preserve enough precision during a reconciliation to identify where rounding was introduced, and verify the native intermediate-precision behavior before relying on it.

For the documented EUR-destination rule, =EUROCONVERT(100;"ATS";"EUR";TRUE();3) also applies the intermediate-precision setting. The illustrative three-decimal model produces 7.267; the help alone does not certify this exact native output. The confirmed contract is that specifying EUR as the destination does not bypass the intermediate-rounding option.

Errors and limits

The dedicated help does not enumerate every accepted currency code, all error codes, or the behavior of triangulation_precision below 3 or with noninteger values. Use the documented valid range and verify additional currencies in the actual installation. An external list of currencies that adopted the euro does not establish that every code is implemented by this function.

Do not use EUROCONVERT for current USD/EUR or other market exchange rates. It has no date or rate-provider argument. For a separately sourced exchange rate, use an explicit, dated rate input and ordinary arithmetic instead.

If a result appears wrong, check conversion direction, source and destination codes, both precision settings and the output cell’s number format. ROUND is useful for an explicitly specified downstream reporting step; it should not silently replace the function’s documented rounding options. Use SUM only after ensuring that the amounts being totaled have a common currency and a consistent rounding policy.

Availability and verification

The exact function is documented in Collabora Office 26.04 desktop help, retrieved and reviewed on October 17, 2026. This establishes a documentation scope, not the first release that introduced the function or the last version in which it works; those versions and any retirement date remain unestablished. Collabora Online and mobile support are not inferred from desktop help, nor is behavior in another spreadsheet product.

The examples are documentation-based expectations with independent calculations. They have not been executed in Collabora Office. No application screenshot or native error/coercion certification is implied. Formulas use English function names and semicolon argument separators.
