Collabora Office NETWORKDAYS_EXCEL2003: Fixed-Weekend Workday Counts
Count inclusive Monday–Friday dates with optional holidays using NETWORKDAYS_EXCEL2003. Distinguish its three-argument add-in from modern NETWORKDAYS.
Verification status: See the evidence and test scope described in this guide. How formula examples are checked
NETWORKDAYS_EXCEL2003 counts eligible Monday-through-Friday dates inclusively between two endpoints and optionally removes holidays. It is a compatibility add-in with a fixed weekend, so its argument contract must be kept separate from modern NETWORKDAYS.
Exact compatibility signature
NETWORKDAYS_EXCEL2003(StartDate; EndDate [; Holidays])
StartDate and EndDate are required date values. Holidays is an optional date or range of dates. The source obtains the document’s date origin and converts the endpoint arguments to signed integers. Use DATE-generated whole dates in new examples; naked serial numbers depend on the workbook date system.
The linked help page primarily presents modern NETWORKDAYS(StartDate; EndDate [; Holidays [; Workdays]]). Its fourth Workdays argument does not belong to this add-in. The exact compatibility evaluator accepts two endpoints and the optional holiday object, and always checks whether the weekday is Monday through Friday. A custom workweek requires a function whose documented signature supports one.
An inclusive calendar walkthrough
October 12, 2026 is Monday. October 16 is Friday; October 17 and 18 are Saturday and Sunday. Enter the following formulas with explicit DATE arguments:
| Formula | Source/math result |
|---|---|
=NETWORKDAYS_EXCEL2003(DATE(2026;10;12);DATE(2026;10;16)) |
5 |
=NETWORKDAYS_EXCEL2003(DATE(2026;10;12);DATE(2026;10;18)) |
5 |
=NETWORKDAYS_EXCEL2003(DATE(2026;10;14);DATE(2026;10;14)) |
1 |
=NETWORKDAYS_EXCEL2003(DATE(2026;10;17);DATE(2026;10;17)) |
0 |
The Monday-to-Friday interval counts five dates, not four elapsed days. Extending it through Sunday still gives five. A single qualifying Wednesday counts one; a single Saturday counts zero. This distinction matters when a planning model combines workday counts with ordinary date subtraction.
Add holidays without double subtraction
- Put
=DATE(2026;10;14)in H2. - Enter
=NETWORKDAYS_EXCEL2003(DATE(2026;10;12);DATE(2026;10;16);H2:H2). - The independently enumerated result is 4: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
- Add the same October 14 date in H3 and October 17 in H4. Using H2:H4 still gives 4.
The helper stores unique holiday dates and ignores weekend holidays in this fixed-workweek calculation. Repeating a holiday does not subtract it twice, and a Saturday holiday cannot remove a second weekday. A holiday outside the interval also has no effect on the count. The helper has special handling for serial zero; use genuine modern dates rather than assuming every numeric placeholder is an ordinary holiday.
Reversing the two weekday endpoints with H2 as a holiday gives −4. The evaluator walks backward and decrements for each eligible date. If the same Wednesday is both endpoints and is also a holiday, the result is zero. These signed results can reveal reversed scheduling inputs; do not automatically apply an absolute value unless the model intentionally discards direction.
Practical capacity calculation
For the five-day interval above, one Wednesday closure leaves four working dates. At six planned hours per eligible date, capacity is independently calculated as 4 × 6 = 24 hours. This is a simple uniform-capacity model: the function does not know half-days, employee-specific schedules, regional holidays or hours of attendance. Supply an explicit holiday list and use a separate hours model when those distinctions matter.
Limits and errors
The endpoint integer conversion is bounded; this guide does not characterize extreme dates, overflow or historical calendar transitions. The implementation iterates through individual dates, so examples intentionally use short intervals. Invalid holiday object conversions can raise an argument exception. No precise localized error token is claimed without application execution.
Use numeric dates rather than ambiguous regional text. Fractional endpoint values are converted through the integer argument route; holiday numeric conversion has its own helper. Whole DATE values avoid relying on their edge-case equivalence. Omitted holidays mean no supplied exclusions, not an automatically populated holiday calendar.
Compatibility, lifecycle and evidence
This guide covers the new Collabora Office desktop for Linux, using the vendor-identified source for Flathub tag coda-26.04.4.3-1, commit 81339d176148d0d5c81ff05d82540f58f8aaa117, and official Help 26.04 checked October 18, 2026. Examples are independently calculated and checked against that source; they have not been executed in Collabora Office or another calculation engine. Display formatting and import/export round trips are untested. This evidence does not establish parity with Classic, Online/CODE, mobile, Windows or macOS.
The function remains documented and implemented in this snapshot. Compatibility status is not proof of retirement or formal deprecation. Its first introduction in this new desktop product is not established by the cited material.
