Quick answer
=PRICE(DATE(2026,12,15),DATE(2028,12,15),0.10,0.10,100,1,0) is expected to return 100 per 100 face value. This regular annual-coupon example pays 10 after one year and 110 after two years; discounting at 10% gives 100.
The source returns a clean price by subtracting accrued coupon interest when settlement is between coupons. It is not automatically the full currency amount payable for an entire holding.
Syntax and inputs
=PRICE(settlement, maturity, rate, yld, redemption, frequency, [basis])
rate and yld are annual decimal rates. redemption is per 100 face value. frequency is 1, 2 or 4 payments per year; the source converts annual coupon and yield to the corresponding per-period values. Do not divide the rates before supplying them.
Basis defaults to 0 when omitted. The documented codes are 0 US (NASD) 30/360, 1 actual/actual, 2 actual/360, 3 actual/365 and 4 European 30/360. Use DATE for unambiguous numeric dates, settlement strictly before maturity, and consistent monetary units. Brackets mark optional syntax and are not typed.
The pricing helper infers regular coupon dates from maturity and frequency. It discounts coupons and redemption, then subtracts accrued interest. It has a separate simple-discounting branch when only one coupon remains. There are no inputs for issue date, an odd first coupon, calls or a holiday calendar.
Step-by-step: a coupon-boundary control
- Enter
=DATE(2026,12,15)in A2 and=DATE(2028,12,15)in B2. - Enter coupon
0.10, yield0.10, redemption100, frequency1and basis0in C2:G2. - In H2 enter
=PRICE(A2,B2,C2,D2,E2,F2,G2). - Label H as a price per 100, with ordinary numeric formatting.
Independent present values are 10/1.10=9.09090909091 and 110/1.10²=90.9090909091, totaling 100. Accrued interest is zero on this coupon boundary.

The zero-yield control sums undiscounted payments. The zero-coupon control discounts only principal. The semiannual control uses four cash flows 3, 3, 3, 103 discounted at 2% per period. These are independent cash-flow sums, not application observations.
Advanced case: clean price between coupons
For settlement June 15, 2027 and maturity December 15, 2028, annual 10% coupons and 10% yield with basis 0, the next two payments occur in 0.5 and 1.5 convention-years. The full discounted value is 10/1.10^0.5+110/1.10^1.5≈104.880884817. Accrued interest is 5, giving expected clean price 99.8808848170 from:
=PRICE(DATE(2027,6,15),DATE(2028,12,15),0.10,0.10,100,1,0)
For a face amount 10,000, multiply the clean quote by 100 and separately scale the accrued 5 by 100. Do not add accrued interest twice or call the clean component the full settlement value.
With only one remaining coupon, settlement June 15, 2028 and the same maturity, the inspected special branch gives 110/(1+0.5×0.10)−5≈99.7619047619. Do not assume the multi-coupon fractional-power expression applies unchanged to that last-period branch.
Errors and limits
Negative coupon or yield, nonpositive redemption, unsupported frequency, invalid basis and settlement at/after maturity return#NUM! after conversion. Zero coupon and zero yield are accepted. Dates, frequency and basis are floored.
Between coupons, the source period fraction is (COUPDAYS−COUPDAYBS)/COUPDAYS; actual/360 and actual/365 conventions should not be replaced with a casually computed calendar fraction. Month-end/leap anchors and irregular periods need separate checking. This function models fixed regular cash flows; it does not establish a market price or predict credit events, exercise of options or transaction costs.

All results in this guide are expected values from documentation, source inspection and independent arithmetic, not application observations. Neither the application nor its calculation engine was used to test these examples. The tag matches the installed version/build designation but does not establish identical behavior in every older release, mobile client, server deployment or imported workbook.
