Monitor a model with Watch Window and calculation settings in ONLYOFFICE
Monitor a model with Watch Window and calculation settings.

Quick answer
Open Formula > Watch Window and add a distant result cell so you can inspect its value and formula while changing inputs elsewhere. Use Formula > Calculation for an explicit recalculation check. A watch is a view of a cell, not another copy of the model or a replacement for validating its formula.
Prepare a distant-output model
This walkthrough uses the English Windows/Linux desktop interface documented for ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors 10.0.0. Start in an XLSX practice workbook with a sheet named Model. Put Quantity, Unit contribution and Fixed cost in A2:A4, and enter 100, 12 and 800 in B2:B4. In G40 enter Net contribution, and in H40 enter =B2*B3-B4.
The starting calculation is 100×12−800=400. H40 is deliberately far enough away that it may not be visible while you edit the inputs. Do not create a second typed “400” near B2; that would be a disconnected number which could silently become stale.
Add and use the watch
- Open Formula > Watch Window.
- Click Add watch and select H40 as the range to monitor.
- Inspect the watch’s Book, Sheet, Cell, Value and Formula fields. Check that it refers to this practice workbook and Model!H40, especially if other files are open.
- Return to the input area while leaving the watch open. Change B2 from 100 to 110.
- Check that the watched result becomes 520: 110×12−800. The formula should still reference B2, B3 and B4.
- Double-click the watch to navigate to the underlying result cell. Confirm the displayed cell value and formula against the watch, then return to the inputs.
The window also supports watching a range. Add B2:B4 if seeing the three inputs alongside the result helps you review a larger model. Keep the list small enough that the important outputs are easy to find; a watch on every cell defeats the purpose of a focused check.
Recalculate deliberately
The official help states that formulas recalculate automatically by default when their inputs change. To force a check, use Formula > Calculation. The main action recalculates the workbook; its menu also offers Calculate workbook and Calculate current sheet. F9 and Shift+F9 are the documented Windows/Linux alternatives respectively.
After the quantity change, a forced recalculation should still produce 520. It should not create a different correct answer. Change B4 from 800 to 900; the result should become 420. Recalculate the workbook again and verify that all three inputs are still the intended values.
No Excel-style Manual calculation mode is assumed here. Advanced Settings contains separate iterative-calculation controls, but enabling iteration is not a sensible fix for this ordinary, non-circular formula. If a number looks stale, first inspect the formula, references and input values.
Remove watches without removing the model
Select an unnecessary entry in Watch Window, use Delete watch and choose Delete watch for the selected entry. Delete all clears the watch list instead. Multiple entries can be selected with Ctrl+click. Removing a watch should not clear its worksheet cell; after deleting the H40 watch, inspect H40 and confirm the formula still exists.
If the displayed result disagrees with the expected 420, check whether you watched a similarly named sheet or another workbook, whether H40 contains a formula rather than text, and whether the inputs changed as intended. An external-source value may need its own update before recalculation can help.
Restore B2=100 and B4=800, expecting 400. Add the H40 watch again and verify it is present, then save and reopen. Check whether your installation retains the watch list; the documentation does not establish persistence across reopen, so be prepared to add the watch again. For linked-source refresh, see external workbook links.
Sources and verification
Official documentation snapshots retrieved on 20 October 2026 support the procedures above. The worked checks are independently reasoned expectations, not a report of native application testing. Save/reopen, rendering and platform behavior remain checks for the stated installation.
