ACCRINTM Function (OpenOffice Calc)

Financial Intermediate OpenOffice Calc

Calculate maturity-paid accrued interest with OpenOffice ACCRINTM. Verify default par, five bases and the release’s February day-count adjustments.

Verification status: Eight ordinary reference formulas were recalculated in Apache OpenOffice 4.1.16 on Linux x86-64, Build 9816, through generated native ODF and GUI hard recalculation. Saved identities, inputs and results were checked. How formula examples are checked

Quick answer: =ACCRINTM(DATE(2024;1;1);DATE(2024;7;1);.05;1000;0) returned 25 in the tested Apache OpenOffice 4.1.16 build.

Availability and version history

  • Introduced: First release not established; documented by OpenOffice.org 3.3.
  • Supported in: Apache OpenOffice 4.1.16; this is a verified release, not a final supported version.
  • Scope: Desktop Calc, English function names and semicolon-separated formulas.
  • Checked: October 14, 2026. Eight ordinary reference formulas were recalculated from generated ODF in 4.1.16 on Linux x86-64, Build 9816. Source and independent arithmetic were checked.

What ACCRINTM returns

ACCRINTM returns accrued interest for a single interest-payment interpretation, using Par×Rate×the implementation’s issue-to-settlement year fraction. It has no coupon frequency or first-interest-date argument. It returns the interest amount, not principal plus interest. Release implementation.

Syntax and arguments

ACCRINTM(Issue;Settlement;Rate[;Par[;Basis]])
  • Issue: start date. Settlement: later end date for this calculation.
  • Rate: required positive annual rate as a decimal.
  • Par: optional positive face value, defaults to 1000.
  • Basis: optional 0, with supported alternatives 1–4 for actual/actual, actual/360, actual/365 and European 30/360.

Eight reproducible examples

The native column contains saved 4.1.16 results; independent references use high-precision arithmetic and the stated source rules. Values are shown to twelve decimal places where needed. Enter DATE expressions directly rather than locale-dependent date text.

Practical worksheet

From January 1 to July 1, 2024, rate 5%, par 1000 and basis 0 produce 25 interest. The three-argument call omits Par and Basis and also returns 25, verifying the defaults for this ordinary case. Principal plus this interest would be 1025 as a separate arithmetic calculation.

Actual/actual gives approximately 24.863387978142 because the release uses 182/366. Actual/360 gives 25.277777777778, while actual/365 gives 24.931506849315. The annual rate is the same; the selected fraction changes the accrued amount.

Advanced interpretation and checks

For February 29 through March 31, 2024, the saved basis-0 result is approximately 4.305555555556, corresponding to 31/360 of 50 annual interest. Basis 4 gives 4.444444444444, corresponding to 32/360. These are the inspected GetYearDiff rules, not the different adjustments used by every other 30/360 helper.

In particular, DISC’s GetYearFrac path gives different February counts. Avoid replacing this function with another function’s year-fraction result without checking the exact endpoints. Scaling par or rate scales the result proportionally for the same dates and basis.

Boundaries and troubleshooting

The source checks positive Rate and Par and Issue earlier than Settlement; Basis conversion is separately validated. It defaults omitted Par to 1000. These tests cover the ordinary three-argument default and explicit five-argument forms, but not blank-cell substitution, every omitted middle argument or invalid inputs.

For payments spread across a coupon schedule, identify the required contractual convention separately. This function computes simple accrual over its selected fraction; it does not compound interest, discount future payments or infer a coupon schedule. The native observations concern the exact release and formulas shown.

Official evidence and checking scope

The generated ODF produced the informational load warning “Not all attributes could be read.” The sheet was hard-recalculated and saved separately. All eight ordinary function identities, inputs and results were reconciled; a stale SUM cache changed from 999999 to 3 and an uncached SUM returned 7. This establishes the stated examples, not every workbook style or invalid input. Other explanatory identities are independent calculations. The authoring-tool XLSX was not executed in OpenOffice, and its preview values are not the native results reported here.
