PlanMaker #DIV/0!: Repair the Denominator
Scope: FreeOffice PlanMaker 2024 desktop, English official manual checked October 21, 2026. Translated labels may differ. No PlanMaker execution or screenshot was performed. Expected results combine documented error rules with independently checked arithmetic; they are not native test observations. Use a disposable workbook.
Locate the division before changing the result
The FreeOffice 2024 error reference identifies #DIV/0! as division by zero. A denominator can be a direct input or the result of another calculation. Inspect that expression separately rather than replacing the entire result.
Suppose a worksheet calculates remaining cost per remaining item. In a disposable sheet enter 120 in A2, 8 in B2 and 8 in C2. Enter =B2-C2 in D2 and =A2/D2 in E2. D2 is 0, so E2 is expected to report #DIV/0!. The subtraction is valid; dividing by its result is not.
Repair only the assumption that is wrong
For this exercise, C2 represents items already completed and the correct source record says 5, not 8. Replace C2 with 5. D2 should become 3 and E2 40. Check the relationship independently: 3 remaining items at 40 each accounts for 120.
Now change A2 to 0, keeping D2 at 3. The expected result is a genuine 0. Restore A2 to 120 and C2 to 8; the error should return. These controls distinguish a zero numerator from a zero denominator.
If all items really are complete, there is no remaining-item rate to calculate. Do not invent one remaining item just to make division work. Record that the ratio is not applicable, or keep the exception visible until the model has an explicit rule for that case. A numeric zero would assert something different.
Check copied rows and upstream inputs
Read the denominator cell and the formula that produced it. Check whether a copied formula points to the intended row and whether completed and total quantities use the same units. Inspect the source record before correcting an input. Formatting cannot make division by zero valid.
FreeOffice’s error manual explicitly excludes the formula Traces feature from the free edition. This procedure therefore relies on reading formulas and inputs, not paid auditing controls. See reference behavior for the conceptual distinction, while respecting that tutorial’s edition scope.
An error-catching fallback should be added only after the business meaning of an unavailable ratio is decided. A successful recalculation after suppressing errors does not prove the underlying inputs were repaired.
