Freeze a Header Row in PlanMaker 2026

Keep row 1 visible while scrolling, use the classic-menu equivalent, and check a custom row-and-column boundary with a small inventory list.

Official PlanMaker 2026 documentation reviewed; independent example checks; not tested in the application. · Editorial standards

To keep row 1 visible, open View → Windows → Freeze cells, click the button’s small arrow, and choose Freeze top row. In the classic-menu interface, select the entire second row and use View → Freeze. Start with existing freezing turned off.

Before you begin

This guide covers the English desktop interface documented for PlanMaker 2026. The ribbon and classic menus are alternative interfaces, not different editions. FreeOffice and older PlanMaker releases were not verified here. Save a practice copy before changing an existing workbook.

Use the synthetic inventory CSV. Open it as comma-separated data and confirm the headings occupy A1:D1:

Item Location Quantity Reorder level
Notebook Shelf A 12 5
Pen Shelf B 30 10
Folder Shelf C 8 4

The file contains 36 inventory records, ending at row 37. It contains values only; CSV does not store frozen panes or formatting. Save the working document in a spreadsheet format after opening it. If your window shows all records, reduce its height or add more rows so the scroll check is meaningful.

Freeze row 1 using the ribbon

  1. If freezing is already active, use the Freeze cells arrow and choose Unfreeze cells.
  2. Choose Freeze top row from that same arrow menu. The selected cell does not affect this dedicated command.
  3. Scroll down until the early inventory records disappear. Row 1 should stay visible above the later records.

Use the classic menu instead

  1. Return to the top of the sheet and remove any existing freeze.
  2. Click the row header numbered 2 to select the whole second row.
  3. Choose View → Freeze, then repeat the scroll check.

Selecting the whole row avoids accidentally including columns. The classic command’s name is Freeze, whereas the ribbon button is Freeze cells; do not look for Excel’s menu names. These paths follow SoftMaker’s interface mapping.

Freeze more than one heading row

For two heading rows, start unfrozen and select the entire row 3. Use the main Freeze cells button (or View → Freeze). To hold both row 1 and column A, start unfrozen, select B2, and apply that command. The dedicated Freeze top row and Freeze first column commands can also be applied in succession. SoftMaker documents these selection rules in Freezing rows and columns.

Check the boundary, then save

  • After the row-only exercise, scroll down to the later records: the headings should remain, without an extra inventory row pinned underneath them.
  • After the B2 exercise, scroll both down and right: the item identifiers in column A should remain alongside the later columns.
  • If a wrong boundary is fixed, unfreeze, return to the top-left, and repeat with the intended selection.
  • Save, close, and reopen your practice workbook to check the view survives your chosen file format. Retest when exchanging files with another spreadsheet program.

Freezing changes the scrolling view, not the underlying inventory. You should still have 36 records. For an optional data check, =COUNTA(A2:A37) should return 36; see the COUNTA reference. Put this check outside the inventory area.

A frozen header does not set a printed repeating header. If the problem is missing headings on page 2, configure print repetition separately rather than repeatedly changing the freeze boundary.

Testing note: Documentation and the sample’s record count were checked. This workflow was not tested in the PlanMaker application; no application screenshots are supplied.
