Copy and organize PlanMaker worksheets, create a within-workbook monthly summary, and verify changes and added months.
Official documentation reviewed; native application verification pending ยท Editorial standards

Separate monthly inputs from a summary without creating links to another file. You will create and copy sheets, move them into a readable order, and verify that each summary formula points to the intended month.
Create January and the summary
Start a blank workbook. Use Insert โ Tables โ Sheet โ Rename to name the current worksheet Jan. Enter this exact fixture:
| Cell | Entry |
|---|---|
| A1 | Item |
| B1 | Revenue |
| C1 | Cost |
| A2 | Kits |
| B2 | 120 |
| C2 | 70 |
| A3 | Repairs |
| B3 | 80 |
| C3 | 30 |
| A5 | Total |
| B5 | =B2+B3 |
| C5 | =C2+C3 |
| D4 | Margin |
| D5 | =B5-C5 |
Jan should total 200 revenue, 100 cost and 100 margin. Save monthly-inputs.pmdx and then a working copy monthly-summary.pmdx.
Choose Insert โ Tables โ Sheet โ Insert to add a sheet, then Rename it Summary. In Summary enter A1 Month, B1 Revenue, C1 Cost, D1 Margin; A2 January; B2 =Jan!B5; C2 =Jan!C5; D2 =Jan!D5. The exclamation mark separates the sheet name from the cell address in PlanMaker. These formulas stay within the same document; do not add a file path or square-bracketed filename.
Copy the layout into February
- Click Jan’s tab to make it active. Ensure only this sheet is selected.
- Choose Insert โ Tables โ Sheet โ Copy and choose a placement within this workbook. Do not choose To another document.
- Rename the copied sheet
Feb. Check its formulas in B5, C5 and D5 before editing; their unqualified cell addresses should calculate from the copied sheet’s own cells. - Change Feb B2=150, C2=90, B3=100 and C3=40. Expect B5=250, C5=130 and D5=120.
- Return to Summary. Enter A3
February, B3=Feb!B5, C3=Feb!C5, D3=Feb!D5. - In A5 enter
Combined; B5=B2+B3; C5=C2+C3; D5=D2+D3.
Expect Summary totals of 450, 230 and 220. Check January’s row is still 200, 100 and 100. If both monthly sheets changed together, stop and inspect tab selection: PlanMaker can apply edits to multiple selected sheets. The worksheet-tab context menu includes Deselect sheets; reduce the selection to one sheet before entering month-specific values.
Reorder and rename with checks
Use Insert โ Tables โ Sheet โ Move while Summary is active and choose the first position. The documented alternative is to hold its tab for about a second and drag it. Reordering presentation must not change the three totals.
Rename Feb to February. Immediately inspect Summary B3:D3 and confirm they still identify the renamed sheet and still show 250, 130 and 120. This rename/reference check is an explicit acceptance step, not a native result claimed here. If your installation does not update a reference as expected, repair the three formulas to =February!B5, =February!C5, and =February!D5, then recheck the totals. Do not paper over a broken reference by typing its old numeric result.
Use simple unspaced names in this first exercise to avoid introducing quoting syntax as a second problem. Rename the sheet back to Feb if you want to return to the earlier formulas; inspect those references again.
Test a changed month and add March
Increase the February sheet’s B2 from 150 to 175. Its revenue becomes 275 and its margin becomes 145; Summary becomes 475 revenue, 230 cost and 245 margin. January stays unchanged. Restore February B2 to 150 before continuing.
Copy Jan again within the workbook, rename the copy Mar, and enter B2=180, C2=110, B3=120, C3=50. March totals should be 300 revenue, 160 cost and 140 margin. Add a third monthly row in Summary A4:D4, using =Mar!B5, =Mar!C5, and =Mar!D5. Explicitly extend the combined formulas to =B2+B3+B4, =C2+C3+C4, and =D2+D3+D4. Expect 750, 390 and 360.
The explicit three-sheet summary is intentionally easy to audit. Adding a sheet alone does not add it to these formulas. Compare the three revenue inputs 200, 250 and 300 with the 750 result to confirm March was included exactly once.
Hide safely, recover, and troubleshoot
For a presentation exercise, select Jan and choose Insert โ Tables โ Sheet โ Hide. The documented behavior keeps hidden sheets in calculations. Confirm Summary remains 750, 390, 360, then use Sheet โ Show, select Jan, and confirm. Hiding is not a confidentiality boundary or deletion.
If sheet commands are unavailable, check workbook protection. If a formula gives a missing-sheet error, inspect spelling and the separator. If a summary is stale, confirm it contains a formula rather than a pasted number. Keep changes to tab selection separate from changes to values so errors are easier to locate.
Save the working file and reopen it; inspect all month tabs and the summary. For a full reset, reopen the preserved Jan-only baseline and save a new working copy, rather than deleting sheets from a possibly valuable workbook. Expected totals were independently calculated; native rename, hide, copy and reopen tests remain pending. For links between separate files, use external workbook links.
