Refresh a Pivot Chart in PlanMaker 2026

Update the source pivot, expand its source range for new records, and verify the chart against independently checked sales totals.

Official documentation reviewed; examples independently checked; not tested in the application. · Editorial standards

Refresh the pivot table feeding the chart, then check its source range. Refreshing cached data and including new rows are separate jobs in PlanMaker 2026. Repainting the chart alone cannot add a record outside the pivot’s source area.

Scope and practice data

Use a saved copy in PlanMaker 2026 desktop. The English help documents separate iOS restrictions for creating pivots and changing their source area; these steps do not establish FreeOffice, mobile, or older-version behavior.

Open the synthetic pivot sales CSV as comma-separated data, or enter this in A1:C5:

Region Item Sales
North Notebook 120
South Notebook 80
North Pen 30
South Pen 20

Use numeric Sales values, one header row and no merged cells. Save as a spreadsheet document; CSV cannot store a pivot or chart. Rename the data sheet SalesData so the later source-range check is easy to identify.

Create a pivot and its chart

  1. Select A1:C5, then choose Insert → Tables → Pivot table.
  2. Confirm the source and choose New worksheet as the target. Click Insert.
  3. Click the new pivot report to show its field list. Drag Region into Row labels and Sales into Values.
  4. Open the dropdown beside Sales in the Values area, choose Value settings, and check Summarize values → Sum. A count instead of a sum can indicate text among the source values.
  5. Right-click a cell in the pivot report and choose Create pivot chart. Pick a column chart and confirm OK.

The expected region totals are North 150 and South 100, with a grand total of 250. Compare the chart categories and plotted values with the pivot cells. The pivot-creation instructions, field-list guide, value settings, and pivot-chart command describe these controls.

Test an edit inside the existing source

Change SalesData!C2 from 120 to 150. In the pivot’s field list click Refresh data, below the areas section. Check for North 180, South 100, total 280. Confirm the chart now represents those two region totals.

If the pivot is correct but the chart still looks old, use Formula → Update → Update data → Update charts and inspect it again. Chart updating has its own setting under File → Properties → Calculate → Charts → Update automatically. This is documented separately from pivot refresh in Calculate properties.

Do not infer current data from a chart’s appearance. Read the pivot values first, then the chart’s categories and values.

Add a record outside the original range

  1. On SalesData, append North, Folder, 50 in A6:C6.
  2. Refresh the pivot. If its source is still A1:C5, the new record is outside that boundary and the total remains 280.
  3. Right-click inside the pivot and choose Modify pivot table areas. Change its source range to SalesData!A1:C6. Keep the existing target and click Change.
  4. Use Refresh data and check North 230, South 100, total 330. Check the chart again.

SoftMaker’s refresh and source-area instructions explicitly say the pivot source area does not automatically extend when rows are inserted inside it or appended at its end. Review the range after either operation. A source table’s visual expansion is not proof that this pivot includes the new extent.

Troubleshoot in the right order

  • Total 280 instead of 330: inspect the source boundary before repeatedly refreshing.
  • Counts rather than amounts: check numeric source cells and the pivot’s Sum setting.
  • Only one region visible: inspect pivot filters and chart categories.
  • Correct pivot, old chart: check chart update settings and that you are viewing the chart created from this pivot.
  • Refresh changes a report you needed to keep: preserve a workbook copy before refreshing; the old cache is replaced.

For a separate source-data cross-check, =SUM(C2:C6) should be 330 after both edits. See SUM. Put this formula outside the pivot’s source range, so it is not accidentally included as another record.

Testing note: The totals were independently calculated and the steps checked against official PlanMaker 2026 help. Pivot refresh, chart behavior and source-range changes were not tested in the application; no native screenshots are supplied.
