PlanMaker Versions and FreeOffice Availability

Quick answer: The free desktop edition covered here is FreeOffice PlanMaker 2024, available for Windows, macOS and Linux. SoftMaker describes FreeOffice as permanently free for personal and business use. Do not substitute a time-limited trial of another SoftMaker product for this edition.

Checked October 20, 2026. We checked vendor documentation only. No application was installed or executed, and no native screenshot or workbook round-trip was produced.

Release name versus revision

The official applications download page lists FreeOffice 2024, revision 1238, dated October 8, 2026. The year in the product name and the revision date are different things: a product called 2024 can receive a 2026 maintenance update.

Record both the edition name and revision when investigating a problem. “PlanMaker” alone is not enough to distinguish FreeOffice from other SoftMaker editions, and a newer revision number is not proof that a paid feature has become free.

The download page lists Windows, macOS and Linux packages. It also supplies minimum operating-system information. An installer accepting an older operating system does not mean that operating system still receives security support. Select a package appropriate for the machine and consult the current official requirements rather than relying on an old screenshot.

The free-edition boundary

The FreeOffice PlanMaker feature page documents spreadsheet calculations and opening and saving Excel XLS/XLSX files. It also documents opening OpenDocument spreadsheets. Those statements do not establish that every format has the same import and export capabilities or that every paid PlanMaker function is included.

For a tutorial that names SoftMaker Office, a subscription edition or a mobile app, check its edition-specific documentation before applying its steps to FreeOffice desktop. This reference does not establish feature parity between those products. Neither an upgrade advertisement nor an available trial changes the free-only scope of the exercise below.

How maintenance updates are documented

The FreeOffice service-pack page independently lists revision 1238 and identifies it as a maintenance update. On Windows, FreeOffice normally uses its automatic update mechanism; the page also describes Check for updates in the application’s help area when a manual check is needed. macOS and Linux have their own download or installation instructions.

Before updating, save work and retain an untouched copy of an important workbook. After updating, compare the recorded revision with the vendor’s platform-specific information. Do not assume a Linux package maintained elsewhere is identical to the currently advertised Windows build.

A proposed local-file smoke check

The expected results below are independently calculated. This exercise was not executed in PlanMaker.

  1. In a disposable blank spreadsheet, enter 12 in B2 and 18 in B3.
  2. Enter =SUM(B2:B3) in B4. Expect 30.
  3. Replace B3 with 20. Expect 32.
  4. Save a disposable XLSX copy, close it, reopen it and inspect B4’s formula and result.

If the total differs, record the revision, formula and visible error before experimenting. If a command is missing, check the edition first; reinstalling or purchasing an upgrade is not a necessary first diagnostic step. If you try another format, preserve the XLSX test copy instead of overwriting it.

The simple calculation does not verify complex charts, macros, external data or every Excel conversion. For a real migration, compare representative files and investigate conversion warnings individually. Continue with the SUM guide, PlanMaker tutorials or the PlanMaker hub.
