PERCENTOF in WPS Spreadsheet: Syntax and Worked Examples
Calculate each product or budget category as a share of the total in WPS Spreadsheet, using fixed ranges and percentage formatting.
Verification status: See the evidence and test scope described in this guide. How formula examples are checked
Quick answer: PERCENTOF calculates a part’s share of a total. In the vendor’s sales example, =PERCENTOF(C21,$C$21:$C$27) displays 14.25% for the first product after percentage formatting.
Availability and evidence
These examples come from an official WPS Academy video showing the Chinese-language spreadsheet interface. The video’s exact operating system, build and license tier are unverified. Its demonstrated results are historical evidence, not a current installation test. Independently calculated examples are labeled separately. Check that your installation recognizes the function and reproduce the small control before using it in a report.
Syntax and arguments
=PERCENTOF(part, whole)
These English argument labels describe the two array fields visible in WPS. The first supplies the subset and the second supplies the full set. The displayed help describes summing the subset and dividing by the total. The executed example uses a single cell as the subset and a seven-cell numeric range as the whole.
Example 1: reproduce the sales-share calculation
Enter 58230, 46659, 41073, 57400, 57844, 78815, 68657 down C21:C27. In D21 enter =PERCENTOF(C21,$C$21:$C$27) and fill down through D27. Use percentage formatting with two decimal places.
The vendor’s final worksheet at 53.545 seconds displays these results, in order: 14.25%, 11.42%, 10.05%, 14.05%, 14.15%, 19.29%, 16.80%. The formula bar shows the first-row formula, including the absolute denominator. The dollar signs are important: each new row should compare a different product with the same full sales total.
Independent arithmetic check
The seven values sum to 408678. The first share is therefore 58230 / 408678, approximately 0.1424838137, which displays as 14.25% at two percentage decimal places. Every row’s ratio can be checked by dividing that row’s amount by 408678. The displayed percentages sum to 100.01% because the seven displayed values were individually rounded; this does not mean the underlying parts exceed the total.
The video establishes displayed percentages, not all digits of the stored function results. The ratio above is an independent calculation, not a readback of WPS’s underlying numeric precision.
Example 2: build a small original budget-share sheet
Put 120, 180 and 300 in B2:B4. In C2 use =PERCENTOF(B2,$B$2:$B$4) and fill through C4. The mathematical expected results are 20%, 30% and 50%, because the total is 600. This original example follows the demonstrated single-cell-over-range contract; it has not been executed in WPS.
For a combined share of the first two categories, the displayed help supports the range form =PERCENTOF(B2:B3,B2:B4), with independently expected 50% from (120+180)/600. Multi-cell numerators are described by the vendor help but are not executed in the reviewed video; validate that variation on the target installation before relying on it.
Troubleshooting and limits
- If later rows look wrong, inspect whether the denominator shifted during copying.
- Format the result as a percentage instead of multiplying an already formatted result by 100.
- Keep the numerator and denominator in matching units and use the intended reporting period for both.
- A zero total cannot form an ordinary ratio; this guide does not assert WPS’s exact error code.
- Text, blanks, errors, negative totals, overlapping or noncontiguous ranges and coercion behavior are not demonstrated. Keep those cases outside the verified example.
