Ask Zia for charts and insights and verify its conclusions
Select a clean dataset, open Tools โ Zia, and verify every suggested chart or answer against a small independent calculation before adding it to a report.
Quick answer
Select a clean dataset, open Tools โ Zia, and verify every suggested chart or answer against a small independent calculation before adding it to a report.
Before you start
Zoho Sheet web editor in an English desktop browser; rolling service, official documentation reviewed 20 October 2026. Not desktop-app or mobile instructions. Use an editable practice file containing only synthetic data. Keep the original unchanged and record the file name and storage location so that you reopen the same copy. These are documentation-based instructions and independently checked examples, not a claim of native application testing.
Give Zia a bounded question
Enter A1:C5 with headers Region, Month, Units and records North / January / 10, South / January / 20, North / February / 15, South / February / 5. Use real numbers in the Units column, not numbers stored as text. Do not add a grand-total row to the selected dataset.
Independent checks are straightforward: North totals 25, South totals 25, January totals 30, February totals 20, and the overall total is 50. February is 10 units below January, a decrease of one third relative to January. These checks give you a way to evaluate a suggestion without trusting its appearance.
Use synthetic data while learning. Built-in Zia suggestions and separate AI-provider configuration are different features; this task does not ask you to enable OpenAI, create an API key or grant an external provider access.
Ask and inspect
- Select A1:C5 and choose Tools โ Zia.
- Inspect the range shown in the side pane. Correct it if it includes unrelated notes, totals or blank columns.
- Review the suggested charts and pivots. Use the available zoom preview before adding one.
- In Ask Zia, ask
What are total Units by Region?Inspect the answer and any accompanying formula, chart or pivot. - Compare the result with North 25 and South 25. Check that Units was summed rather than counted, and that the Region field was used for grouping.
- Add a useful suggestion with its + control only after it passes the check. Keep the source table nearby so readers can trace the result.
If the natural-language answer is ambiguous, rephrase it with the exact column names and operation. Do not repeatedly ask until one answer happens to match what you wanted to hear. The goal is a correctly specified analysis.
Challenge a plausible conclusion
Ask about totals by Month next. Expect January 30 and February 20. A chart sorted alphabetically or presented without clear labels can obscure the time sequence. Inspect the actual category labels before describing a month-to-month change.
Open the Insights view if available and evaluate any claim against the fixture. A statement that one region leads overall would be wrong here because both total 25. A claim about future demand would exceed what four synthetic observations establish. Distinguish arithmetic summaries from forecasts and causal explanations.
Edit and verify freshness
Change South’s February Units from 5 to 15. The new checks are South 35, North 25, February 30, January 30, overall 60. Refresh or repeat the analysis as appropriate and compare with those values. Do not assume an earlier conversational answer is a continuously updating formula.
If the inserted object and a newly requested answer disagree, inspect each source range and aggregation. One may be a snapshot or may still refer to the earlier selection. Keep the result out of a report until you can explain the discrepancy.
Handle unavailable features cleanly
If Tools โ Zia or an AI action is unavailable, check the account’s current administrative settings and product help. Do not change provider configuration merely to reproduce this example. The same totals can be checked using a conventional pivot table or formulas, but that fallback is not proof that an AI feature ran.
Before sharing, retain the question, selected range and independent checks beside the chosen result. Describe it as a verified summary of these records, not an authoritative conclusion simply because an AI assistant suggested it.
