Zoho Sheet Free Access, Desktop Availability and Versions

Quick answer: Zoho Sheet is not limited to a browser. The official product page links to web access, Windows and macOS desktop apps, and Android and iOS apps. Choose the environment first: local desktop files and spreadsheets stored in the web service do not necessarily follow the same saving or synchronization workflow.

Checked October 20, 2026. This page verifies published availability and instructions. We did not create an account, install the apps, test synchronization or capture native screenshots. Features described for one platform are not evidence of parity with another.

Free web access and account context

Zoho’s Sheet comparison page explicitly offers free use with a Zoho account. That is distinct from purchasing one of Zoho’s larger product bundles. An ordinary spreadsheet does not require starting a paid bundle or trial simply because one is advertised nearby.

When following a web tutorial, record that you are using the web service, the browser and operating system, the date checked and the feature involved. Do not invent a desktop-style release number for the web service. If you are using an installed app, record its own displayed version and platform instead.

The free Windows desktop beta

The Windows desktop FAQ gives important qualifications that are more precise than general product marketing:

  • The Windows application is free and currently described as a beta.
  • A Zoho account is not required for local files. Cloud-file access requires an account.
  • You can create and edit local spreadsheets offline.
  • Automatic synchronization is not currently supported. The FAQ points to Import to Cloud for bringing a file online.

Do not assume that closing a local file uploaded its latest changes, or that a cloud copy will automatically reflect later local edits. Treat local and cloud copies as separate until you deliberately transfer and verify the intended file. Before using the beta for important work, retain an independent backup and test disposable copies.

The Windows page lists XLSX, XLS and XLSM editing, along with CSV and TSV. An XLSM filename appearing in a supported-format list does not, by itself, prove that every Excel VBA macro runs unchanged.

Other platforms need their own checks

The product page also links to macOS and mobile apps, but this reference does not establish their exact current version numbers or feature-by-feature equivalence. The Windows beta and no-auto-sync qualifications above are specifically sourced to the Windows FAQ; they should not be silently generalized to every Zoho app.

If a menu in a browser tutorial is missing on a phone or desktop app, first check that you are reading the correct platform instructions. Record the application version and where the file is stored before troubleshooting.

A small disposable-file check

This is a suggested manual check, not an application test we performed. Enter 12 in B2, 18 in B3 and =SUM(B2:B3) in B4. The independently calculated result is 30. Change B3 to 20; the expected result is 32.

For a Windows local-file check, save a disposable XLSX file to a known folder, close it and reopen that same file. Verify the formula and values. Do not treat this as a cloud-sync test. For web work, verify that the intended cloud spreadsheet contains the changes before relying on another device.

Zoho’s web export instructions use File > Download As and list XLSX, XLS, ODS, CSV, TSV, PDF and HTML. Keep the source spreadsheet and inspect an exported copy in its intended receiving program. Format availability is not a guarantee of perfect conversion; this simple calculation does not test charts, macros or complex formatting.
