Apple Numbers Starter Files and Practice Downloads

Choose the file for your exercise

These four small, synthetic CSV files are reusable starting data, not finished Numbers spreadsheets or installed templates. They contain no formulas, macros, external links, real customer records or saved cell controls. Keep an unchanged download and use a separate working copy.

Download Best use Expected imported data rectangle, including headers
Status tracker CSV Practice a controlled set of status choices A1:B9: eight tasks, two columns
Order filtering CSV Check filtering and sorting against known records A1:G9: eight orders, seven columns
Prefixed identifier CSV Practice preserving numeric-looking identifiers A1:C7: six records, three columns
Raw identifier reference CSV Compare original strings in a plain-text viewer Seven text lines including the header; three CSV fields per record

The raw identifier file is deliberately difficult test data. Do not use a routine spreadsheet opening of that file as proof that leading zeros or long identifiers were preserved. Use the prefixed file for the guided import experiment and retain the raw file as an untouched text reference.

Status tracker: check the blank as well as the labels

The status file has headers Task,Status and tasks P-01 through P-08. Its starting inventory is two New, two In progress, one Blocked, two Done, and one empty status for P-06. The empty value belongs in B7; it is not the word “blank” or a default status.

The CSV does not create pop-up menus. Follow make a pop-up menu from existing values to add the controls in Numbers for Mac. Before changing any task, confirm all eight records retain that inventory. A status count that still totals eight is not enough if the unanswered task acquired an unwanted answer.

Order table: distinguish data from controls

The order file contains IDs 1001–1008 and headers Order, Region, Product, Amount, Status, Reviewed and Notes. The eight Amount values total 910. Reviewed contains four TRUE and four FALSE strings in the CSV; the file itself stores no checkbox formatting. Notes is empty for orders 1002, 1004, 1007 and 1008.

Use sort and filter Numbers tables for the control setup and procedures. The condition “East, amount at least 100, and reviewed” selects orders 1001 and 1007, whose amounts total 320. Treat that as an independently calculated record check, not a claim that a normal SUM automatically totals only visible rows. Clear the exercise’s filters before checking the original eight-record inventory again.

Identifier pair: verify characters, not appearance

Both identifier files have six records, the same descriptions and quantities totaling 13. The description Notebook, blue must remain one field despite its comma. Each transport identifier is the corresponding raw string with exactly ID: prepended.

After removing only that prefix as described in preserve long order IDs, the expected identifier lengths are 8, 20, 20, 20, 4 and 5. The two strings ending in 890 and 891 must remain distinct; 1E10 must not become a number and 03-04 must not become a date. Compare the complete resulting strings with the raw text, not just their lengths. Prefixing an already damaged import cannot restore its original digits.

Platform and reusable-template boundaries

The linked procedures target Numbers 15.4 for Mac, not the iPhone, iPad or Numbers for iCloud interface. This catalogue’s file inspection was performed on October 21, 2026; no Numbers application import, save/reopen test or screenshot was performed.

Apple’s Mac text-import reference documents delimiter, text-qualifier and encoding controls under Adjust Import Settings. For these files, the source format is UTF-8, comma-separated, with double quotes around the description containing a comma. Check the rectangle and empty fields before editing: Apple says import settings cannot be adjusted after editing the imported table. If the data arrives in one column, reopen an untouched copy and correct the settings rather than editing the malformed import.

CSV holds plain data, not multiple sheets, styling, formulas or a reusable template definition. Save a working spreadsheet in .numbers format after adding those features. A native custom template is a different file type, .nmbtemplate; renaming a CSV does not create one. This catalogue supplies no native Numbers template download.

For a locally built model, use create and save a reusable template, which starts with Blank rather than premium template content. Apple’s custom-template reference describes Mac, iPhone and iPad template availability, with the same Apple Account and iCloud Drive needed for automatic availability across devices. It explicitly excludes Numbers for iCloud from that custom-template availability. This does not establish identical CSV-import controls on those platforms. No sign-in, subscription or paid trial was used here; see versions and availability before choosing your platform.

Exact download integrity

All four files use LF line endings, end in a newline and contain ASCII characters that are valid UTF-8. Sizes and SHA-256 hashes describe the original downloadable bytes, not a successful native import.

  • pop-up-statuses.csv: 103 bytes; SHA-256 e020967e49a6ee462da94bdbd89edde8bde525c3fd7c214bed3838656cb41b29.
  • filter-orders.csv: 333 bytes; SHA-256 9cb29d651099fc5bf6696407d1cb140b1377bf6b811d92486873c459e3d6b26b.
  • order-ids-transport.csv: 211 bytes; SHA-256 a615cea991f36a64a1016f82dd60ca212751bd5acf5a64e862c3a6a1ba2fc586.
  • order-ids-raw.csv: 189 bytes; SHA-256 708c1db4d524aedc52f2b548d1eaed067fccb2cd54fed0c654e0715e98fccc5e.

If a downloaded copy differs, investigate before using these checks. A spreadsheet re-export may legitimately change quoting or line endings, but it is no longer the exact original file. Test any adapted workflow on synthetic records before using important data.
