LEGACYCHIDIST Function (Calligra Sheets)

Statistical Intermediate Calligra Sheets

Calculate right-tail chi-square probabilities with Calligra LEGACYCHIDIST. See real-valued degrees of freedom, endpoint guards and engine precision.

Verification status: 17 selected formulas were executed through the Calligra Sheets 25.04.2 calculation engine library. Exact outputs, mathematical references and source limitations are documented separately. Version 26.08.2 was source-checked only; no GUI-cell or import claim. How formula examples are checked

Quick answer: =LEGACYCHIDIST(2;2) gives approximately 0.36787944121 in the tested Calligra calculation engine.

Availability and version history

  • Introduced: First release not established; the name is present in Calligra 2.4.0 source.
  • Supported in: Calligra Sheets 26.08.2, with no retirement established.
  • Scope: Desktop Sheets with the Statistical module. Compatibility names remain registered; no retirement is inferred. Examples use English semicolon-separated formulas.
  • Checked: October 14, 2026. Selected formulas ran through the official 25.04.2 engine library. Source and independent mathematics were checked. This is engine evidence, with no GUI-cell or import verification; 26.08.2 was source-checked only.

What LEGACYCHIDIST returns

LEGACYCHIDIST returns the upper-tail chi-square probability P(X>x). Its LEGACY prefix identifies a compatibility function that remains registered; it does not establish that the function is retired. The implementation subtracts a gamma CDF from 1. Function-specific official reference.

Syntax and arguments

=LEGACYCHIDIST(x;degreesFreedom)

Exactly two arguments are required. x is the cutoff. Use 1≤degreesFreedom<100000; fractional degrees within that range are retained rather than floored. With a valid degree, x≤0 returns 1. Registration and implementation.

Reproducible engine examples

The engine and mathematical columns are separate. Results are rounded to twelve decimal places, or thirteen significant digits in scientific notation for very small or large values. This is a display choice, not an accuracy guarantee.

Practical worksheet

At x=2 with two degrees of freedom, the mathematical right-tail probability is EXP(−1), approximately 0.367879441171. The native value differs slightly because of the gamma approximation. At x=5.3 the mathematical probability is approximately 0.070651213060.

A right-tail probability decreases as the cutoff increases. This is the opposite direction from a lower-tail CDF, so preserve the tail convention when translating function names.

Advanced interpretation and checks

The chi-square distribution with ν degrees of freedom is gamma with shape ν/2 and scale 2. The implementation computes 1−GammaCDF(x/2;ν/2;1). For two degrees, this reduces mathematically to EXP(−x/2).

The advanced check subtracts EXP(−1) from the native result at x=2. Its nonzero residual makes the precision distinction visible. Subtraction from a CDF near 1 can also lose a small upper tail; the function name alone is not a guarantee of extreme-tail accuracy.

The executed advanced check was:

=LEGACYCHIDIST(2;2)-EXP(-1)

Its engine result was 3.883827835076E-11.

Boundaries and troubleshooting

The 100000-degree cutoff is excluded by the callback, whereas 1.9 degrees is accepted. A negative observation returns 1 rather than an error, provided the degree passes its guard. Nonnumeric observation text followed the zero-cutoff path in the tested engine.

Use numeric inputs deliberately and retain the stated degree range. A legacy compatibility name is an active worksheet name in both historical and current inspected sources; no introduction or retirement date is inferred from that name.

Official evidence and precision scope

The statistical and math modules and value-calculation helpers are byte-identical between the inspected 25.04.2 and 26.08.2 sources. That comparison supports the source discussion but does not establish later-version execution, GUI-cell behavior or other locales.
