AVERAGEIFS function in ONLYOFFICE Spreadsheet Editor

Quick answer: AVERAGEIFS calculates the arithmetic mean of numbers that meet all supplied conditions. It is useful for average order values by channel and region. Unlike AVERAGEIF, the first argument of AVERAGEIFS is always the numeric average range.

Exact syntax and arguments

=AVERAGEIFS(average_range, criteria_range1, criteria1, [criteria_range2, criteria2], ...)
Parameter Required? Meaning and typical input
average_range Yes The numbers being averaged, e.g. C2:C6. The calculation is not a sum.
criteria_range1 Yes The first field to examine, e.g. A2:A6 for sales channel.
criteria1 Yes The first required filter, e.g. "Store" or an input-cell reference such as E2.
criteria_range2, criteria2, … No; optional pairs Additional field and condition, e.g. B2:B6,"North". The ONLYOFFICE reference says you can add up to 127 range-and-criterion pairs, without separately identifying a versioned lower limit.

Use corresponding ranges with the same row count and order; evaluate each row against all criteria. * matches any number of characters and ? one character in conditions, according to the vendor’s AVERAGEIFS function help. Literal text criteria must have quotation marks in typed English formulas, but unquoted cell references such as E2 refer to a cell’s content.

Locale note: The English help shows commas, and the function-insertion guide documents inserting functions from the Formula tab or with Shift+F3. Formula names and delimiters may be localized; the same typed English formula has not been checked against every language configuration.

Copy this sample dataset

Put these headers in A1:C1 and the next five data rows in A2:C6:

Row A: Channel B: Region C: Revenue
1 Channel Region Revenue
2 Store North 50
3 Web North 80
4 Store South 70
5 Web North 40
6 Store North 30

Keep revenue values as numbers without typing a currency symbol into the cell text. Run these in free result cells, not inside the source data.

First worked example: average North/Store revenue

=AVERAGEIFS(C2:C6,A2:A6,"Store",B2:B6,"North")

Expected result: 40. Rows 2 and 6 are the only North/Store sales; their numeric revenues are 50 and 30. Independent calculation: (50 + 30) / 2 = 40. This is a mean, not the SUMIFS total of 80. Not executed natively.

For a one-criterion check, remove the channel filter:

=AVERAGEIFS(C2:C6,B2:B6,"North")

Expected result: 50. North rows have revenues 50, 80, 40, and 30: 200 / 4 = 50. This also checks that AVERAGEIFS accepts a required first pair without a second one.

Advanced application: a threshold and editable criteria cells

For an average of North/Store sales at least 40, add a criterion on the same numeric range:

=AVERAGEIFS(C2:C6,A2:A6,"Store",B2:B6,"North",C2:C6,">=40")

Expected result: 50. Row 6’s 30 is excluded by the third criterion, leaving only row 2’s 50. Note that this differs from the ordinary North/Store mean of 40.

For a dashboard, type Store in E2, North in F2, and use:

=AVERAGEIFS(C2:C6,A2:A6,E2,B2:B6,F2)

Expected result: 40 until a criterion cell changes. Selecting the target cells through the ONLYOFFICE function dialog reduces transposition errors. To audit your result when every matched revenue is numeric, the corresponding original source guide gives =SUMIFS(C2:C6,A2:A6,"Store",B2:B6,"North") (expected 80) and =COUNTIFS(A2:A6,"Store",B2:B6,"North") (expected 2). Dividing 80 by 2 reproduces 40 for this controlled dataset; if some revenues are blank or nonnumeric, a simple matching-record count is not necessarily an average’s denominator.

Edge cases and troubleshooting

Symptom Reproducible check and next action
Your result is 80 instead of 40 You probably used SUMIFS or omitted division; AVERAGEIFS returns the mean of matching numeric amounts.
Your result is 50 instead of 40 Check whether you omitted "Store", or added ">=40"; both changes select a different sample.
Nothing matches Check spelling, quotes, spaces and whether both criteria ranges cover the intended rows. Do not assert a specific ONLYOFFICE error code for zero matches from the current help page.
Your amount column contains text Convert imported numeric text to numeric values and retry; format the result separately.
The application displays a formula error Check that first comes average_range, then complete range-and-criterion pairs; use the function wizard to verify localized separators.
Criteria ranges differ in length from average_range Realign the row coverage. The vendor reference does not pin down the exact native failure code for this case.

The checked function reference does not explicitly define behaviour for all blank/error cells, Boolean-to-number conversions or no-match conditions. Microsoft Excel’s documented behaviour may be informative but must not be presented as an ONLYOFFICE execution result. Avoid silently replacing an error with zero in financial reports without considering the meaning of a missing sample.

Cross-software compatibility and version support

The ONLYOFFICE function page and Microsoft Excel AVERAGEIFS reference agree on the order average_range, criteria_range1, criteria1, ... and on optional range/criterion pairs. Excel also documents how it handles no matches and mismatched ranges, but that is Excel-specific evidence. Do not assume identical error codes or all wildcard escape semantics in ONLYOFFICE.

ONLYOFFICE’s checked reference is unversioned. The Docs changelog lists 9.4.0 released 2026-05-20, while the separate Desktop Editors changelog lists 9.4.0 on 2026-05-19. Neither links this function to its first supported version or confirms mobile/editor-edition parity. This guide describes the current English web documentation, not a verified version-by-version compatibility matrix. Verify the exact installed build/edition before deployment.
