MINIFS function in ONLYOFFICE Spreadsheet Editor

Quick answer: MINIFS returns the smallest value in a numerical range when its corresponding row meets one or more conditions. It is useful for the smallest sale, lowest defect count, shortest response time or minimum stock figure within a specified group. It is not the same as MIN, which applies no conditions.

The official ONLYOFFICE MINIFS documentation lists it among statistical functions and defines the order of the minimum range and criteria pairs. The calculations below are reproducible expected values, not observed native editor results.

Official syntax and argument definitions

=MINIFS(min_range, criteria_range1, criteria1, [criteria_range2, criteria2], ...)
Argument Required? Exact role Example
min_range Yes Numerical cells from which the minimum will be chosen. C2:C6
criteria_range1 Yes First column/range to compare against a criterion. A2:A6
criteria1 Yes First matching rule, e.g. a text label or cell reference. "Store"
criteria_range2, criteria2, … Optional pairs Further range and condition filters; each selected row must pass every rule. B2:B6,"North"

Do not swap min_range with criteria_range1: the same order is documented by both the vendor’s help and Microsoft Excel’s MINIFS help, but this alone does not prove identical error handling. The ONLYOFFICE page expressly documents ? as a single-character wildcard and * for zero or more characters in criteria. Its current English reference does not state a maximum criteria-pair count. Do not import the 126-pair maximum documented for Excel as an ONLYOFFICE claim.

Enter this five-sale example

Make a new sheet and enter the following data into A1:C6:

Row A: Channel B: Region C: Revenue
1 Channel Region Revenue
2 Store North 50
3 Web North 80
4 Store South 70
5 Web North 40
6 Store North 30

Type 50, 80, 70, 40, and 30 as numeric values, not strings such as "$50". Keep the formula cell outside the source range.

Basic example: lowest Store sale in North

=MINIFS(C2:C6,A2:A6,"Store",B2:B6,"North")

Expected 30. The two qualifying rows are row 2 (50) and row 6 (30); MIN(50,30) = 30. The Web sales of 80 and 40 do not count, even though they are in North, because they fail the Store condition. The South/Store sale of 70 also fails.

Now count all North sales, irrespective of channel:

=MINIFS(C2:C6,B2:B6,"North")

Expected 30, the minimum of the four numbers 50, 80, 40, and 30. With only the first criteria pair, the required syntax is still satisfied. These results are independent calculations, not native formula-execution evidence.

Advanced case: a lower bound on qualifying values

Suppose you only want to consider Store/North sales at least 40:

=MINIFS(C2:C6,A2:A6,"Store",B2:B6,"North",C2:C6,">=40")

Expected 50. Row 2 has 50 and passes all three tests; row 6 has 30 and fails the numeric threshold. This illustrates why the minimum of the filtered set can be greater than the ordinary Store/North minimum of 30.

For a second independent check, compare Web/North values:

=MINIFS(C2:C6,A2:A6,"Web",B2:B6,"North")

Expected 40, the smaller of Web/North revenues 80 (row 3) and 40 (row 5). For a reusable dashboard, put Store in E2, North in F2 and reference them with =MINIFS(C2:C6,A2:A6,E2,B2:B6,F2) (expected 30 with those inputs). A cell reference like E2 is not a quoted text string.

Errors, limits, and troubleshooting

Situation Practical next step
You see 40 instead of 30 Verify whether Web was used instead of Store, and whether all criteria ranges cover rows 2–6.
You see 50 instead of 30 Remove any accidental ">=40" third filter, then compare with the simple sample.
The formula refuses to calculate Ensure arguments are in min_range, then range/criterion pairs; compare punctuation and language with the built-in Function dialog.
Source numbers were imported as text Convert them to real numeric values and repeat the basic example.
Nothing satisfies the conditions Treat this as a separate test case; do not assume the editor returns 0 or any particular error value without checking the target build.
Ranges are inconsistent Use corresponding dimensions, such as C2:C6, A2:A6 and B2:B6; a different shape can change matching or cause an error.
You need all row details rather than one minimum Use the site’s FILTER guide to inspect qualifying rows, keeping in mind the dynamic-array behaviour is separately versioned.

The current ONLYOFFICE function page does not document a specific no-match return value, error code for range mismatch, or numeric/text coercion rules. Microsoft Excel explicitly describes some of these cases (including a zero for no matches) but that evidence is not an ONLYOFFICE native test. Do not publish an unverified edge-case output as fact.

Version, language and cross-software guidance

The ONLYOFFICE MINIFS page and Excel MINIFS page use the same argument order. Excel documents up to 126 additional pairs and specific mismatch/no-match outcomes; ONLYOFFICE’s checked English page does not give those guarantees. The French ONLYOFFICE MINIFS page illustrates a localized name and semicolon notation, so English formula text should not be assumed universally paste-ready; this guide has not run the localized application.

Current ONLYOFFICE Docs releases include 9.4.0 (2026-05-20), and current ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors releases include 9.4.0 (2026-05-19). Their release entries do not establish the first version with MINIFS or prove identical behaviour between browser, desktop and mobile editions. Therefore the only confirmed applicability for this guide is the unversioned current official function documentation, not an installation-specific minimum release.
