HSTACK in WPS Spreadsheet: Join Equal-Height Tables Side by Side
Join equal-height WPS ranges side by side with HSTACK. Follow column order, check row alignment, and distinguish values from formatting.
Verification status: See the evidence and test scope described in this guide. How formula examples are checked
Quick answer: =HSTACK(A1:B2,D1:D2,F1:G2) places three equal-height ranges side by side. Each source row stays together, and the output columns follow the argument order.
Syntax and arguments
=HSTACK(array1,array2,...)
Supply the arrays in the required left-to-right order. The demonstrated call supplies three arrays. The expandable dialog exposes further array fields; maximum arity, a one-array call, and omitted-array behavior are not established. These examples deliberately supply three equal-height rectangles.
Example: a small reproducible fixture
Enter A1:B2 as rows Item | Qty and Pen | 4. Enter D1:D2 as Zone and West. Enter F1:G2 as rows Cost | Status and 2 | Ready.
In I1, with I1:M2 empty, enter =HSTACK(A1:B2,D1:D2,F1:G2). Expected rows are Item | Qty | Zone | Cost | Status and Pen | 4 | West | 2 | Ready. The shape is 2×5: two rows, and widths 2 + 1 + 2. Numeric inputs 4 and 2 should be entered as numbers. Before joining real tables, check that each source row refers to the same record. If you use date cells, check the output number format: the official example displays date values as serial numbers.
Additional example: join header-free ranges
For a header-free three-block test, enter A5:B6 as A | 10, B | 20; D5:D6 as North, South; and F5:F6 as Open, Closed. =HSTACK(A5:B6,D5:D6,F5:F6) in I5 has expected rows A | 10 | North | Open and B | 20 | South | Closed. Reserve I5:L6. Matching row counts make the row association explicit; HSTACK is not a lookup or key-based join.
What the official demonstration establishes
At 30.187s and 34.473s the completed source formula is =HSTACK(A1:B25,D1:F25,H1:I25). The inputs are 25 rows high with widths 2, 3 and 2, yielding a 25×7 output. The visible date values become serial numbers in the output, so source cell formatting is not a reliable expectation for the joined result.
Troubleshooting and limits
Unequal heights, missing-row padding, empty arguments, nested arrays and exact spill errors have not been verified in these examples. Check row correspondence before combining tables; it does not match customer IDs automatically.
If the function is not recognized, confirm its availability in the intended WPS installation before changing the formula or substituting a similarly named function. For array outputs, enter the formula in an unused area and reserve the stated output rectangle. Exact blocked-output errors are not established here.
Availability and verification
The official WPS HSTACK lesson shows a Chinese-language WPS spreadsheet interface. The review on October 19, 2026 did not establish a numeric build, exact edition, operating system, license requirement or introduction date. Historical demonstration does not prove present support across desktop, web and mobile editions.
The examples above have independently checked expected results. They have not been executed in an installed WPS build.
Related functions
Use VSTACK when the tables should be appended vertically. To select the columns to combine first, see CHOOSECOLS; it does not replace checking row alignment.
