SHEETS in WPS Spreadsheet: Count Sheets in a Controlled Workbook

Information Intermediate WPS Spreadsheet

Count worksheets in controlled WPS workbooks with SHEETS(). Compare four-sheet and two-sheet examples without assuming hidden-sheet behavior.

Verification status: See the evidence and test scope described in this guide. How formula examples are checked

Quick answer: =SHEETS() returns the current workbook sheet count. In the example below, a workbook containing exactly four ordinary visible worksheets should return 4.

Syntax and arguments

=SHEETS([reference])

The source demonstrates SHEETS() without a reference, so the argument is optional for the current-workbook count. A separate referenced-sheet example is visible, but this guide does not cover three-dimensional reference syntax. These recipes use only the verified no-argument form.

Example: a small reproducible fixture

Prepare a new workbook containing exactly four ordinary visible worksheets named Summary, North, South, Notes. Ensure there are no other sheets. In Summary!A1 enter =SHEETS(). Conditional expected result is 4. The result depends on workbook structure, not the number of populated cells or the length of any table.

Additional example: count a two-sheet workbook

Prepare a separate workbook with just two ordinary visible worksheets named Input and Output. Enter =SHEETS() in Input!A1. Conditional expected result is 2. Comparing these setups isolates the workbook context; it does not test whether hidden or non-worksheet sheet types are counted.

What the official demonstration establishes

At 18s the video shows the complete entered =SHEETS() formula and the optional-reference tooltip; at 19s the committed result is 4. At 21.864s and 27.272s the live current-workbook result remains 4, corresponding to the four visible tabs. The static explanatory dialog embedded above it shows 6; that is a different illustration and must not be reported as the live result. At 43.494s a separate three-sheet selection produces 3. That referenced-sheet formula is not covered here.

Troubleshooting and limits

Hidden and chart-sheet inclusion, external references, invalid references, 3D-reference syntax and refresh after adding or deleting sheets have not been verified in these examples. Count sheets only in a controlled fixture before comparing with these conditional results.

If the function is not recognized, confirm its availability in the intended WPS installation before changing the formula or substituting a similarly named function.

Availability and verification

The official WPS SHEETS lesson shows a Chinese-language WPS spreadsheet interface. The review on October 19, 2026 did not establish a numeric build, exact edition, operating system, license requirement or introduction date. Historical demonstration does not prove present support across desktop, web and mobile editions.

The examples above have independently checked expected results. They have not been executed in an installed WPS build. The stated count is conditional on the specified workbook containing only those ordinary visible sheets.

Use SHEET to inspect the position of a named worksheet. For a list of tab names in a controlled workbook, see SHEETSNAME.
