Copy and Organize Zoho Sheet Worksheets
Duplicate and name worksheets, verify copied formulas and retain a recoverable cloud workbook.
Quick answer
Use the worksheet tab’s Duplicate command to copy within a spreadsheet, rename the new tab and change a formula input there. Verify the baseline stays unchanged before keeping a separately named completed cloud file.
Make a reusable worksheet without losing the baseline. This exercise uses a self-contained calculation, so it does not depend on undocumented behavior for references to other sheets.
Prepare the baseline
In a new private spreadsheet, double-click the worksheet tab and name it Baseline. Enter A1 Item, B1 Units and C1 Cost, then enter this fixture, using formulas in C2:C4:
| Cell row | A: Item | B: Units | C: Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | Folders | 3 | =B2*4 |
| 3 | Labels | 5 | =B3*2 |
| 4 | Total | =SUM(C2:C3) |
C2:C4 should show 12, 10, 22. Use File → Save As to name the host Worksheet Practice Baseline. Record its URL in your private notes and confirm it appears in your account’s spreadsheet list. This named cloud file is the recovery point, not a downloaded workbook.
Duplicate and identify the working sheet
- On the
Baselinetab’s context menu, use Duplicate, the same-spreadsheet copy command documented in Zoho’s copy announcement. - Activate the new tab, right-click its name, choose Rename, and enter
Scenario. Check the selected tab reads Scenario before making changes. - Inspect C2 and C3. They must still be formulas referring to B2 and B3 on this sheet. Change Scenario B2 from 3 to 4: C2 should become 16 and C4 should become 26.
- Activate Baseline. B2 must still be 3 and C4 must still be 22. A copy is not an ongoing synchronization rule.
- Return to Scenario. Add A5
Added labels, B52, C5=B5*2. Change C4 to=SUM(C2:C3)+C5; the result becomes 30. This explicitly extends the calculation rather than assuming a range grows automatically.
Names provide organization without a claim about an undocumented drag-to-reorder gesture. Keep Baseline and Scenario visibly distinct; do not rename the spreadsheet itself when you mean to rename a tab.
Optional copy to a separate file
Only use a destination you own and may edit. On Scenario choose Copy → Copy to a New Spreadsheet and follow the Click here link. Identify the new file by its different URL, name it Worksheet Scenario Standalone using File → Save As, and verify C4 is 30. Preserve the original host URL. A copy into an existing file instead uses Copy → Copy $sheet_name$, then the destination tab’s Paste $sheet_name$; the copied tab is inserted after that destination tab. Do not perform this across someone else’s files without the appropriate permission.
This variant deliberately uses no external references. If a real sheet refers to another sheet, inspect any reference-sheet warning and every dependent formula before accepting a copy; this exercise does not establish how all external links, charts or validations migrate.
Save, reopen and recover
Save the host with both tabs as Worksheet Organization Complete using File → Save As. Record the resulting URL and reopen that exact file. Verify Baseline total 22, Scenario total 30, and both sheet names. This completed file is the result to retain.
For optional reset practice, create Worksheet Organization Reset with File → Save As first. On its Scenario tab restore B2 to 3, clear A5:C5 and restore C4 to =SUM(C2:C3). Total returns to 22; the completed file remains 30. If you changed the wrong tab, recover from the separately named baseline rather than relying on Undo after reopening. Stop if Duplicate is absent or the copied formulas are different; the official announcement is documentary support, not a verified current account screenshot.
Scope and verification
Zoho Sheet web editor, English interface, rolling service; cached official documentation retrieved 2026-10-19 and reviewed 2026-10-20. Requires edit access to a private practice spreadsheet. Native browser execution and screenshots are not verified; desktop/offline and mobile parity are outside scope.
The fixture values and state transitions were independently checked outside Zoho Sheet. No account was opened, no native run was performed and no application screenshot is claimed. If your controls differ, stop and consult the current help rather than applying another platform’s instructions.
