Create a Chart from Worksheet Data in Calligra Sheets
Turn a compact table into a chart in Calligra Sheets and avoid row/column label and scaling problems.

Charts help explain how values change across categories or time. Calligra Sheets supports embedded charts; however, its current interface has changed since the publicly available KDE handbook was authored, so treat exact button placement as version-dependent.
Prepare a small dataset
Enter these values into a blank sheet:
| Month | Orders |
|---|---|
| January | 12 |
| February | 16 |
| March | 14 |
| April | 20 |
Select both columns, including the header row. The horizontal labels should be the month names, and the vertical numeric values should be order counts. For this dataset, a column chart makes comparison easy. A line chart may be preferable for a longer continuous time series.
Build the chart
- Identify the chart/shape insertion command in your release of Calligra Sheets. The archived KDE instructions place charts in an Add Shape panel enabled through Settings → Dockers; the current UI may differ.
- Select the two-column dataset, then insert a new chart or chart shape.
- Confirm the input range and tell the chart which row contains series headers and which column contains category labels.
- Choose a column-style plot and inspect whether the four heights correspond to 12, 16, 14 and 20.
- Give the chart a descriptive title, such as Orders by month, and label the numeric axis.
Fix the most common chart errors
- Four series instead of one: review whether your data are grouped by rows or columns.
- Month labels missing: tell the chart to use the first column as category labels.
- All bars same height: inspect whether the order values are numbers, not text.
- Misleading comparison: avoid clipping the numeric baseline on a simple bar/column comparison.
See sorting with headers before creating charts from larger tables.
Verification status: Data, chart intent and documented feature were reviewed. Modern chart insertion controls must be checked in a current Calligra release before publication.
