Collabora Calc Troubleshooting: Find the Failing Layer
Start by deciding whether the problem is a formula that cannot be entered, a calculation error, a plausible but wrong result, or a missing application control. These need different fixes. Work in a disposable copy and retain the original formula, inputs and file before changing anything.
This is a diagnostic entry point to the existing guides, not a complete error-code dictionary or a claim that every Collabora client has identical controls.
Record the environment before repairing the sheet
Write down the exact product and available build information, operating system or browser, interface, file format and locale. For Online, include the storage host and whether the file is editable. A browser session, an installed mobile app, new Collabora Office and a traditional/Classic desktop installation are not interchangeable test environments.
The linked function references use Collabora Office Help labeled 26.04; that label identifies documentation, not a verified runtime or proof of support on every hosted server. Traditional desktop menu paths should be used only where the installed interface exposes them. Do not install another edition, change global formula settings or request broader permissions merely to make a troubleshooting example work.
Formula rejected after pasting
Record the exact error and inspect the full formula in the input line. For Err:509, follow the existing missing-operator and separator repair guide. Its documented starting point is a missing operator, not an instruction to replace every comma.
A small control separates arithmetic from the original workbook: =2*(3+4) has expected result 14. With numeric B2 = 5 and C2 = 3, =B2*C2 has expected result 15. Test outside the source range. These are independently calculated expectations, not observations from a Collabora run.
If the control works but the pasted expression does not, compare ordinary quotes, matching parentheses, operators and the installation’s argument separator. A comma inside "North, priority" is text, not a separator to replace. Reference conventions also matter; use the detailed owner’s examples rather than mechanically rewriting every exclamation mark or comma. A different error needs its own diagnosis. This hub adds no new numeric error-code mappings to the existing source-reviewed scope.
Formula accepted, but a calculation fails
Inspect the raw calculation before adding a fallback. For a ratio, verify the divisor and the source cells; 10/2 is 5, while division by zero is not a valid ratio. For square roots, check whether the intended domain permits the input: SQRT documents the nonnegative-root calculation and its negative-input limitation. Do not apply ABS merely to suppress a domain problem.
The IFERROR guide explains presentation after diagnosis. Replacing an error with zero can misrepresent unavailable data as an observed zero. Keep the raw expression alongside any labeled fallback, and test a valid zero too. A malformed expression that cannot be parsed is not repaired by wrapping it in IFERROR.
For a missing name or reference, inspect the actual target before recreating anything: sheet spelling, referenced cells, the name’s scope and the bounds it resolves to. The named-range guide distinguishes document names from local names and database ranges. A name that resolves to the wrong valid range may produce a wrong number without an error.
Number looks reasonable, but is wrong
Check the inputs and included cells, not only the final total:
- Numeric-looking text: ISNUMBER distinguishes a numeric value from text containing digits. SUM documents that text and empty cells inside a referenced range are ignored. A display format alone does not establish conversion.
- Missing appended rows: inspect the exact range. The named-range exercise totals 100 for its original four cells; adding 50 and 60 below them does not include them while the definition remains A1:B2. Explicitly extending that definition produces the intended 210.
- Pivot misses new records: use the pivot-source boundary guide. Refreshing existing values and expanding the source are separate checks. Its original sales total is 580; including the additional 25 produces 605.
- Overlapping ranges: check whether a cell or subtotal is counted twice. Use one small nonoverlapping control before rewriting a large aggregation.
Keep quantities distinct from identifiers. A text ID with leading zeroes may be correct even when a quantity stored as text is not.
CSV changed dates, IDs or column boundaries
Return to the untouched CSV if import altered the data. Formatting an already converted cell cannot establish that the original characters survived. The semicolon CSV guide separates delimiter selection from column typing and requires checking that the actual import dialog offers Text columns.
Its practice ID 000012345678901234 has 18 characters; 03/04/2026 has 10 and deliberately does not choose a date order. Use ISTEXT and LEN to inspect preservation. Do not turn an ambiguous date string into a date until its intended order is known. If the required import controls are absent, stop that workflow rather than accepting a converted preview.
Control missing, changes blocked or collaborators affected
First distinguish edit permission, protection and product/interface scope. Sheet and cell protection explains why an input cell can remain locked and why a read-only file is not proof of successful selective protection. Do not remove protection without authorization.
For filtering, the personal Sheet View guide requires a two-editor isolation check on synthetic data. A normal filter is not evidence of a personal view, and a personal view does not make cell-value edits private. If another editor’s rows change, stop testing on the shared original.
If saving or reopening differs from the visible result, stop editing and preserve the exact file identity, last confirmed saved state and intended cell changes. Ask the host administrator to investigate the deployment-specific behavior; do not assume a fixed autosave delay or silently restore a revision over others’ work.
A useful handoff and a safe retest
Record the smallest reproducible formula, expected result, actual result or exact error, affected cell/range, build/interface and original file format. Use synthetic inputs where possible and avoid sending a confidential workbook merely to demonstrate a formula issue. Retest the repaired calculation, change one input, then save and reopen a separately identified copy where the workflow permits it.
Choose a reproducible starting dataset from the practice-file catalogue.
Evidence boundary: This hub summarizes the inspected guides and their first-party documentation provenance, including the Collabora error reference and formula-options reference. The error table was not freshly available for this review; no additional code mappings are asserted. Arithmetic and file-string controls were checked independently. No native application, import, save/reopen, collaboration or screenshot test was performed, and no universal availability or compatibility claim follows from these examples.
