PI Function in SoftMaker PlanMaker 2026: Formula, Examples & Troubleshooting

Math Beginner SoftMaker PlanMaker 2026

Learn the PlanMaker PI function, its exact syntax, examples, limits and Excel compatibility.

Verification status: Official documentation referenced; example outcomes independently reasoned or arithmetically checked where stated. Not executed in SoftMaker PlanMaker 2026. How formula examples are checked

Insert the mathematical constant pi in circle, angle and geometry formulas.

Verification: No native PlanMaker execution was performed. SoftMaker documentation was inspected on 2026-10-13. Numeric expected outputs below are vendor examples where marked or calculations made independently; they are not screenshots, measured PlanMaker executions or proof of exact runtime behavior.

Quick formula

=PI()

Enter a formula with =. This function name and parameter order are taken from SoftMaker’s official 2026 reference.

Arguments, data types and defaults

Argument Requirement and type Default
No arguments The parentheses are required even though the function takes no arguments. Not applicable

Reproducible formula examples

Formula (English-reference syntax) Expected result Evidence
=PI() 3.14159265… SoftMaker 2026 documented approximation
=2*PI()*4 25.1327412287… Independent mathematical check
=PI()*POWER(4,2) 50.2654824574… Independent mathematical check
=PI()*2 6.2831853072… Independent mathematical check

Reproduce it in a worksheet

Create a small circle calculator. Enter Radius in A1, Circumference in B1, and Area in C1. Type radii 2, 4, and 10 into A2:A4. In B2 enter =2*PI()*A2; in C2 enter =PI()*POWER(A2,2). Copy both formulas down through row 4.

Radius Expected circumference (2 × π × r) Expected area (π × r²)
2 12.5663706144… 12.5663706144…
4 25.1327412287… 50.2654824574…
10 62.8318530718… 314.1592653590…

These values come from an independent mathematical constant, not a captured PlanMaker output. A number format with fewer decimals will shorten what the worksheet displays.

How PI differs from typing 3.14

PI() returns the program’s representation of the constant rather than the rough estimate 3.14. In a large radius or repeated calculation, using 3.14 introduces avoidable approximation error. SoftMaker’s help shows 3.14159265…, but does not specify the exact internal precision. Do not claim a particular bit width or number of correct stored digits without native verification.

Advanced uses

Degrees to radians. Enter 180 in D2 and =D2*PI()/180 in E2. Expected result is π radians (approximately 3.14159265). For 90 degrees the result is π/2. Trigonometric input units depend on the receiving function; document them explicitly.

Cylinder volume. Put radius 3 in F2 and height 8 in G2. Formula =PI()*POWER(F2,2)*G2 gives 226.1946710584… cubic units.

Circumference to diameter. Put circumference 31.4159265359 in H2. Formula =H2/PI() yields approximately 10; note that an entered rounded circumference cannot produce an exact integer at infinite precision.

Combine with SQRTPI. For a nonnegative multiplier x, SoftMaker documents SQRTPI(x) as SQRT(x*PI()); for x=42, the vendor gives about 11.48681381.

Errors, limits and troubleshooting

  • Missing parentheses: PI by itself is not the documented PI() function call. Use =PI().
  • Number shown as 3.14: Usually a display-format decision; inspect decimal places before changing a mathematically correct formula.
  • Unexpected angle result: SIN(90) (where 90 is interpreted as radians) is different from SIN(90*PI()/180). Confirm the target function’s angle units rather than assuming degrees.
  • Misspelled function or text cell: The official PI entry does not specify every possible parser/error code; do not invent specific PlanMaker error outcomes.

PlanMaker, Excel and editions

SoftMaker’s 2026 and 2024 manuals both document the no-argument PI() signature. Microsoft separately lists PI in Excel’s math functions. That is evidence of comparable conceptual support, not a verified numerical bit-for-bit match or native cross-platform execution. Device, edition, precision and localized formatting require direct application testing.

Localization and worksheet verification

The formulas above use the English-language PlanMaker reference with comma-separated arguments where necessary, period-decimal numeric examples and cell references. SoftMaker documents input/configuration settings, but the cited function page does not certify every locale’s delimiter, translated function name, decimal separator or settings combination. Use the application’s Formula → Function dialog to inspect locally accepted syntax. Date of reference inspection: 2026-10-13.

To validate natively, create the specified cells, enter each formula, capture the displayed and underlying result (including number format), and record PlanMaker version/build, product/edition, OS, locale, calculation settings and file format. There was no PlanMaker native execution in this research batch. Test any error case, relevant .xlsx export/import and formatting separately; Excel’s outcome does not prove PlanMaker’s.

Source comparison, scope and evidence

  • SoftMaker PlanMaker 2026 English help: PI function — primary function signature, defaults, restrictions and vendor examples. Checked 2026-10-13.
  • SoftMaker PlanMaker 2024 English help: PI function — compared; same core documented signature and examples at inspection. Checked 2026-10-13.
  • Excel: Microsoft catalogues PI; same no-argument concept. Exact internal precision and workbook round trip untested.
  • Limitations: PlanMaker 2026 English documentation checked, but no native build/platform/edition, localized syntax or Excel round-trip was tested. Do not transfer unsupported error behavior from Excel or older versions.
