Arrange existing pictures, shapes and text objects in WPS Spreadsheet

Identify overlapping objects, repair their stacking order and group a report annotation for movement.

Documentation-based procedure; synthetic checks independently verified; no native application execution · Editorial standards

Quick answer: Use the Selection Pane to identify and rename existing objects, change their stacking order and temporarily hide an obstruction. Group objects that must move together. Hiding an object is not deleting it, and grouping drawing objects is not grouping worksheet rows.

Prepare a realistic starting state

Work on a copy of a report that already contains a picture, a filled shape and a text box. For this exercise, identify a small logo picture, a rectangular callout background and a text box reading Review before sending. They should sit above or beside the data, with the text box partly obscured by the background shape. If you do not have those objects, this guide starts too late for your task: object insertion is not covered by the evidence used here.

The WPS Academy sources describe desktop-style Spreadsheet controls, but do not establish a numeric build or an exact operating system. Follow this guide only where the interface matches. It is not a procedure for WPS mobile or browser editing, and no native application run is claimed.

Note the worksheet values underneath the callout, for example A2=North and B2=75. You will check that arranging drawings has not changed the report’s cell data. Keep a saved original to recover the layout if needed.

Find the actual objects

  1. Open Home > Find and Replace > Selection Pane. The Academy also describes a Page Layout entry; use the documented entry that is visible in your interface.
  2. Click each listed object’s name and observe which object is selected on the sheet. Do not assume a generic name such as Picture 1 identifies your logo until you see its selection outline.
  3. Rename the three relevant entries to Report logo, Review background and Review text. Double-click the name, edit it and press Enter.
  4. Click the eye beside Review background to hide it temporarily. Confirm that Review text is now readable. Click the eye again to restore the background.

This identification pass prevents a common mistake: moving whichever object happens to be on top instead of the one that actually needs repair. The object list is especially helpful when a large opaque rectangle captures every mouse click.

Repair the annotation

Select Review text in the pane and use its up/down ordering controls until the text is visible above Review background. Inspect the result after each change. The intended outcome is a readable message on a visible background, not simply a particular list position memorized from another workbook.

Keep Report logo separate. Hold Shift while selecting the background and text objects on the sheet, then choose Drawing Tools > Group. Move the resulting group slightly to an unused area beside the report. The text and background should move together and keep their alignment. The logo should stay in place.

The sources also describe selecting multiple named objects with Ctrl in the Selection Pane. That can help identify your intended set, but verify the selected objects before invoking Group. Do not include an unrelated chart or hidden object just because its name is nearby.

Prove the group behaves as intended

Move the annotation again, then undo that move. Check that both its parts return together. The text must still read Review before sending, and A2/B2 must retain the original values you recorded (North and 75 in the illustrative example).

For a reversible change check, ungroup the annotation using the documented Ungroup control near the shapes or on Page Layout. Move only the text a small distance, undo that move, and group the intended pair again. This demonstrates the difference between a grouped annotation and independent objects without rebuilding the report.

Troubleshooting and final checks

If an object appears missing, inspect its eye state and stacking order before deleting or recreating it. If Group does not produce the intended pair, check the selection rather than continuing to move objects blindly. Restore the saved copy if several unintended moves make the layout difficult to reconstruct.

Save and reopen the working copy. Check the text remains readable, the logo stays independent, the annotation moves as one group and the cell values remain unchanged. Before sharing, inspect print or PDF output: a neat editing view alone does not establish a readable printed report.

Use printing and PDF output for the final page check. Sheet and cell protection addresses edit restrictions, which are separate from merely hiding an object.
