BOOKNAME in WPS Spreadsheet: Show the Current Workbook Filename

Information Intermediate WPS Spreadsheet

Show a saved workbook filename with WPS BOOKNAME. Compare the same no-argument formula in two named workbooks.

Verification status: See the evidence and test scope described in this guide. How formula examples are checked

Quick answer: =BOOKNAME() returns the current workbook name without any arguments. In the official example, the result includes the .xlsx extension; the expected result below depends on the workbook being saved under the stated name.

Syntax and arguments

=BOOKNAME()

There are no arguments. The source explicitly states this and shows empty parentheses. The workbook’s saved name is external input to the formula; the sheet name and a label typed in a cell are different inputs.

Example: a small reproducible fixture

Create a disposable workbook and save it as Inventory.xlsx. In A1 type Workbook; in B1 enter =BOOKNAME(). Conditional expected B1 is Inventory.xlsx, provided this is the current saved workbook and your installation follows the demonstrated filename behavior. Compare the result with the actual saved filename, including its extension. This is a proposed reproduction, not a new WPS execution.

Additional example: compare two saved workbooks

In a separate saved workbook named Orders.xlsx, enter the same =BOOKNAME() formula. Conditional expected text is Orders.xlsx. The formula text is identical, but the workbook context changes the result. Keep this comparison separate from any claim about how quickly an already-open workbook refreshes after a rename or Save As.

What the official demonstration establishes

At 25.142s the selected cell C21 shows the formula =BOOKNAME() and the result BOOKNAME返回工作簿名称.xlsx. The explanatory static dialog has the same filename, but the committed worksheet result and formula bar provide the important execution evidence. This is a filename example; it does not demonstrate a full folder path.

Troubleshooting and limits

Unsaved workbooks, cloud-document names, renamed-open-file refresh, extension hiding, file-format conversions, external workbook arguments and path output are not established. Do not pass a cell address to a function demonstrated without parameters.

If the function is not recognized, confirm its availability in the intended WPS installation before changing the formula or substituting a similarly named function.

Availability and verification

The official WPS BOOKNAME lesson shows a Chinese-language WPS spreadsheet interface. The review on October 19, 2026 did not establish a numeric build, exact edition, operating system, license requirement or introduction date. Historical demonstration does not prove present support across desktop, web and mobile editions.

The examples above have independently checked expected results. They have not been executed in an installed WPS build. The stated filename is conditional on the exact saved workbook name.

Use SHEETSNAME for worksheet names and SHEETS for a controlled workbook sheet count. CELL covers explicitly referenced cell information and separately documents its filename mode.
