LibreOffice Calc Starter Files and Practice Downloads
Choose a file by the skill you want to practise. These are small, synthetic data-only CSV downloads, not ready-made Calc templates. They contain no formulas, macros, formatting or multiple sheets. You do not need a paid spreadsheet edition to use them in desktop LibreOffice Calc.
Editable project workbook
For a ready-to-edit workbook rather than raw CSV data, use the project cost planner. It includes XLSX and ODS downloads, twelve item slots, a worked example and clearly stated testing limits. The CSV files below remain data-only practice downloads.
For a stock example, the inventory reorder workbook provides XLSX and ODS files with explicit input checks, threshold rules and twelve fixed item rows. Suggested quantities are arithmetic aids, not automatic purchase decisions.
For a reading log, the reading progress workbook provides XLSX and ODS files for twelve book rows, input checks and page-weighted progress. Its guide distinguishes total pages read from the average of individual book percentages.
For scheduling checks, the booking conflict workbook supplies XLSX and ODS files for twelve reservations on one local clock. It separates conflicted reservations from overlapping pairs and does not create bookings or connect to a calendar.
Choose a download
| Download | Size | Choose it for |
|---|---|---|
| Three-month expense data (CSV) | 86 bytes | A simple rectangular dataset for checking numeric imports and adding your own totals |
| Items and quoted commas (CSV) | 74 bytes | Checking that a comma inside a quoted item name stays in one cell, then practising quantity × price calculations |
Both files are UTF-8 text using comma field separators. The expense file lives in a shared practice folder originally used by the Calligra lessons; its location does not make it a Calligra-only file. These links reuse the original downloads rather than provide differently named copies.
Expense starter: what you receive
The complete file is:
Category,January,February,March
Travel,120,90,110
Supplies,35,45,40
Training,80,20,60
Include the header when importing into a blank sheet starting at A1. The result should occupy A1:D4: three category labels and nine numeric amounts, not a completed expense-report template. The figures have no specified currency, tax treatment or accounting meaning.
Enter these checks in unused cells:
| Check | Expected result |
|---|---|
=COUNT(B2:D4) |
9 |
=SUM(B2:B4) (January) |
235 |
=SUM(C2:C4) (February) |
155 |
=SUM(D2:D4) (March) |
210 |
=SUM(B2:D4) (all months) |
600 |
The category totals are Travel 320, Supplies 120 and Training 160. As a change test, replace B2’s 120 with 125: January should become 240 and the grand total 605. Restore 120 afterwards. These are independently calculated acceptance checks, not a claim that this catalogue’s import was executed in Calc.
Items starter: what differs
The second file contains a header and these three records:
| Item | Quantity | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Pencils | 12 | 2.50 |
| Paper, ruled | 3 | 4.25 |
| Notebook | 4 | 5.75 |
The actual CSV surrounds Paper, ruled with double quotes. Expect three columns, with that full description in A3. Prices use a decimal point. For this fixture, select an import language that recognises decimal points, such as English (USA), rather than assuming your local numeric convention matches the file.
After correct numeric import, =COUNT(B2:C4) returns 6 and =SUM(B2:B4) returns 19. Add =B2*C2 in D2 and fill through D4 to obtain 30.00, 12.75 and 23.00; =SUM(D2:D4) is 65.75. Those formulas are exercises to add, not content already supplied in the CSV.
Open, check, then save a working copy
This guidance uses desktop Calc Help labelled 26.8, checked October 21, 2026. No new native import, save/reopen test or screenshot was produced for this catalogue. See versions and availability for edition scope.
Use File → Open and the Text Import preview. Select UTF-8, comma as the field separator and double quote as the text delimiter. Include all four rows. For the expense file, Category can be Text and the month columns Standard. Leave Evaluate formulas disabled where offered: neither download needs formula evaluation during import. For complete instructions, use fix CSV files opening in one column.
If COUNT is low, stop and fix the numeric import rather than trusting a plausible SUM that may ignore text. If the items file produces an extra column, check its quote delimiter. Keep the original download unchanged and save your working workbook separately as .ods to retain formulas and formatting.
For an actual reusable .ots master, follow create and reuse a Calc workbook template. Renaming a CSV to .ots does not create one.
File integrity and references
The original bytes were inspected on October 21, 2026. Each file has four rows including the header; neither contains formula-triggering cell prefixes or external links. SHA-256 identifies the downloaded bytes, not proof of a successful Calc import:
