Calligra Sheets Troubleshooting and Error Reference
First separate the symptom from the cause
Keep the original document unchanged and investigate a separately named copy. Note the sheet, cell, formula, input values, file format and exact Calligra version. If a recovered copy appears, preserve it separately before comparing it with the original.
Scope: this is a source-checked desktop diagnostic index, reviewed 2026-10-21. KDE’s hosted Sheets handbook identifies itself as revision 2.7, March 11, 2013. Its menu descriptions are historical documentation, not proof of current-release behavior. The linked recalculation tutorial separately documents native testing in 25.04.2 on Linux and source review in 26.08.2; that does not establish native testing of 26.08.2 or other platforms. Compare the commands with your installed application’s Help.
Formula result, clipping, or stale calculation?
The handbook’s Simple Sums section distinguishes a formula error from a result that cannot fit in its cell. It describes #VALUE! as a formula-understanding problem and a row of symbols ending in a small red arrow as a display-width symptom. Inspect the formula and widen the cell before changing valid inputs solely because the display is clipped. Do not interpret that description as a complete modern error-code catalogue.
For values that do not change after an input edit, follow formulas not recalculating. That guide checks a committed edit, sheet-level automatic recalculation, explicit document recalculation, text inputs and formula display. Follow the documented change test instead of overwriting the result with a number.
If the result changes but is still wrong, check the actual dependency. Use absolute references for copied formulas and cross-sheet references for formulas pointing elsewhere. If a label is involved, inspect named cells and areas. Recalculation cannot determine which source row you meant to use.
An edit is rejected, or parts of the workbook seem missing
The handbook’s validity documentation describes input criteria and configurable alerts. An input warning is not necessarily a calculation-engine error. Check the cell’s intended rule using data validity before relaxing it. The documented validity feature checks entered data; it is not a guarantee that every downstream formula result is sensible.
If you cannot edit a cell, distinguish those rules from sheet/cell protection. Ask the owner about intentional restrictions rather than attempting to bypass protection.
If sheet tabs or toolbars disappear, the handbook documents Settings → Tab Bar and Settings → Toolbars Shown as visibility controls. Look for the corresponding controls in your installed build before assuming content was deleted. The Settings menu reference is the source for those labels; it does not prove that an absent tab contains a hidden or deleted sheet.
Problems after importing, recovering or printing
- CSV columns or characters look wrong: return to delimiter and encoding import. Preserve the source and verify a few rows before attempting bulk edits.
- A foreign workbook looks different: use file-format compatibility checks. Compare formulas, formats and sheet structure, not only the visible total. Save conversions separately.
- A crash or unsaved edit is involved: use backup and autosave recovery. Recovery depends on files that actually exist; it cannot reconstruct every unsaved change.
- Only the printed page is wrong: inspect print/PDF output before modifying data to fit a page.
Verify and record what happened
After a targeted repair, test one changed input and the original failing case. Restore the intended inputs, save the repaired copy and reopen it. If the failure remains, prepare a small non-confidential example with exact steps and expected versus actual results.
The documented Help menu provides About Calligra Sheets for version information and Report Bug for reporting. Inspect what will be shared before attaching a workbook; a reduced synthetic example is preferable to private records. This reference adds no native screenshots or execution evidence and makes no claim that every current Calligra error has been covered.

For worked examples of specific formula errors, browse the calculation error reference. Use the relevant guide on a disposable example or a copy of your workbook.
